G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance (G20 YEA) is a collective of leading entrepreneurially-minded organizations representing the G20 countries who seek to promote youth entrepreneurship as a powerful driver of economic renewal, job creation, innovation and social change. The Alliance was founded as a movement to engage the G20 leaders in the cause of youth entrepreneurship, share information across borders, affect positive policy change and create a global network of young entrepreneur advocates while building a collaborative entrepreneurial environment worldwide. The G20 YEA provides leadership to G20 political leaders on best practices in promoting youth entrepreneurship through policy recommendations and sharing best practices in the areas of access to funding, coordinating support initiatives, enhancing the entrepreneurship culture, regulation and taxation, education and training. The signatories of the G20 YEA Charter envision the alliance as a network that, through its discussions with governments, the media, the public and each other, champions the cause of young entrepreneurs at the local, national and international level, an alliance of organizations from industrialized and developing economies that makes measurable progress towards its goal of a world where an increasing number of entrepreneurs grow businesses, create jobs, change lives and ensure future economic prosperity, as a recognized body that exists as part of the official G20 process and is able to engage, contribute to and impact the findings of the G20 to raise awareness and address the issues of emerging entrepreneurs across the globe.

The G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit (G20 YES) is a three day international event organised in parallel to the G20 Summit, which brings together 20 delegations of 400 of the most emblematic entrepreneurs aged 18-45 from member countries. It is a forum for young entrepreneurs from the G20 countries to meet with their peers, learn best practices in growing dynamic companies and to celebrate entrepreneurship as the leading source of job and wealth creation, innovation and well being of all nations. The vision of the G20 YES is to place the entrepreneur, the economic and social model it embodies, the foundations of the entrepreneurial ecosystem at the heart of the debate of Heads of State, to promote the key role of entrepreneurs in innovation, job creation and growth, to allow entrepreneurs to share their experiences with leading figures of the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the 20 most important economic powerhouses around the globe, to value the driving force of young entrepreneurs within the entrepreneurial ecosystem and their ability to drive forward solid proposals for innovation, employment & growth and to inspire current and future generations of entrepreneurs. Yi is proud to have taken the official Indian delegation of Young Entrepreneurs to the G20 YES in Toronto & Nice and will also take a geographically diverse and sectorally inclusive delegation to the G20 YES in Mexico

This 2011 edition of G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit (G20 YES) held at Nice, France has built on the dialogue that begun in Stresa, Italy (at the G8) and continued at the G20 meetings in Toronto, and Incheon to develop concrete proposals for the G20 Leaders who were meeting a few days after the summit at Cannes. These proposals aimed to unleash the potential of the next generation of entrepreneurs to lead the economic and social regeneration that all G20 countries require as they emerge from the financial crisis. The summit at France had numerous sessions and panel discussions with people of eminence and inspiration that included the likes of Mr Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra from India, Mr Ashraf El Gazayerli, Chairman, Mediterranean Young Entrepreneur Organization from Egypt, Ms Samantha Davies, Yatchman of the Year 2010 from UK, Ms Maria Pinelli, Global Vice Chair of Strategic Growth Markets, Ernst & Young from USA, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, Economist, and Founder of Grameen Bank from Bangladesh, Mr Xavier Fontanet, Chairman, Essilor from France and Professor Daniel Isenberg of Babson College, Massachusetts. An international conference on the theme "A New Generation of Entrepreneurs: Builders of the 21st Century Economy" was held as part of the summit on 2 November 2011 which had roundtables on "Why do emerging and developed economies struggle so much to integrate youth in the economy and is entrepreneurship something you can teach?; "From SMEs to global leaders: betting on innovation"; "What are the components for a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem?" and "Investing in Growth & Innovation: Today's Equity Financing Opportunities and Challenges in the Present Global Debt Market" Mr Christian Estrosi, His Excellency, the Mayor of Nice was present during the summit and addressed the members. India was represented at the summit by 23 members of Young Indians from 16 cities.

India hosts the G20 YEA Leadership Assembly

The G20 Interim Meeting and Leadership Assembly began with formalising the goals of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance. The Presidents and Sherpas conducted a review of work done to promote entrepreneurship by the G20 YEA members and their countries. This was followed by the reports and recommendations by the Steering Committee and other Committees on Membership, Marketing, Fundraising, Governance, Strategic Planning and Events. India, represented by Yi, drafted the G20 YEA Memorandum of Understanding and was selected to Chair the Governance Committee of the G20 YEA. This New Delhi Memorandum of Understanding was signed by all 20 Member organisations and completed the process of forming G20 YEA into a Chartered Alliance. India was also nominated as a member on the Marketing and Strategic Planning committees of the G20 YEA. Ernst & Young made a presentation highlighting the need for G20 YEA members to forge effective relationships and how the countries can benefit with the E&Y entrepreneurship barometer, created for the G20 YEA. A curtain raiser on the forthcoming G20 Summit at Mexico scheduled from 2-5 June 2012 was also made.

1 & 2 Mr Jorge GarciaaArgelles and Mr Jorge Herbert, members of the G20 YEA representing Mexico on behalf of COPARMEX making a presentation on the forthcoming G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit at Mexico in June 2012. They highlighted on the broad agenda of the summit apart from giving information about their country, number of delegates expected from each member country, the support of their government towards this events and their eagerness to welcome the delegates to Mexico. Saudi Arabia nominated themselves for the Strategic Planning Committee. The Commonwealth Business Forum was held in Perth on 25-27 October, just prior to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The theme of the CBF was Participating for Global Growth: The Commonwealth, Indian Ocean and the Pacific Rim and highlighted global economic partnerships for trade and investment, providing an opportunity to attract a senior business audience to Australia from a range of key Commonwealth countries. Around 1000 delegates from 51 countries, 10 Heads of Government and 40 Ministers attended this forum. The Forum provided an opportunity for business and government to learn from more than 100 speakers and panellists including Heads of Government, Ministers of Finance, Trade and Development, Chairmen and Chief Executives of business and other industry leaders, Meet and discuss trade, investment and partnership opportunities, learn new business and investment prospects, develop new business leads and identify new trade and investment partners, conduct and conclude business in one to one meetings with other international partners, network with policy makers, key government officials and business leaders, influence global debate on important trade and investment issues & contribute to key policy recommendations to Commonwealth Heads of Government Mr Adi Godrej, President Designate, CII & Chairman, Godrej Industries Ltd led a 15 member delegation for the Commonwealth Business Forum and called on senior political leaders of New South Wales Government in Sydney. Yi created History on 16 November 2011 in successfully bringing together the best youth organizations in the region to form the first ever advocacy and mentorship network in the Commonwealth Asia Region in partnership with the Commonwealth Youth Programme Asia Centre, Chandigarh. Called the Commonwealth Asia Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs (CAAYE), it is a network of young entrepreneurs and the organizations that support them. It have been established to continually promote the cause of young entrepreneurs in the respective countries and will convene each year and in advance of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting & relevant Commonwealth Ministerial forums to provide a platform to present a united voice of young entrepreneurs. This alliance has representatives from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Maldives and Brunei-Darussalam and India and the organizations from each of these countries include Prince's Youth Business International's and Small & Medium Enterprise Foundation (SME) from Bangladesh, The Young Entrepreneurs Association from Brunei, The Malaysian Graduates Entrepreneur Association and Junior Chamber International, Petaling Jaya, from Malaysia, Junior Chamber International from Maldives, The Young Entrepreneurs Forum, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Pakistan, The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Young Entrepreneurs Network (YEN@SICCI) from Singapore, The Network of Young Srilankan Entrepreneurs (NYSE) & Youth Business International (YBSL) from Srilanka and Confederation of Indian Industry's Young Indians from India. The Presidency of the CAAYE for its inaugural year 2012 is with India, represented by Young Indian. Yi been appointed as the Chair of the Steering Committee, the Chair of the Strategic Planning committee and a member of the Marketing & Communication committee of CAAYE. Yi will also be the proud host of the First CAAYE Young Entrepreneur Summit in India to be held in December 2012. The mission of this alliance is to be a network that, through its engagement with governments, the media, the public, all relevant stakeholders and member organizations, champions the cause of young entrepreneurs at the local, national ,regional and international level and an alliance of organizations from economies of the Commonwealth-Asia region that makes measurable progress towards development of entrepreneurship to ensure future prosperity.

CAAYE Visioning Workshop


Working in partnership with the Commonwealth Secretariat, Yi successfully brought together the best Youth organisations in the region to form the first ever advocacy and mentorship network in the Commonwealth-Asia Region. After 3 months of work, culminating in 2 days of a visioning workshop, facilitated by Yi, partners in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Maldives and Brunei-Darussalam joined India to announce the formation of the Commonwealth-asia Alliance of Young Entrepeneurs (CAAYE). CII's Young Indians (Yi) has also been appointed as the Founding Chair for this Historic Alliance The Visioning workshop set various goals and objectives for CAAYE that included: CAAYE will be a network that, through its engagement with governments, the media, the public, all relevant stakeholders and member organizations, champions the cause of young entrepreneurs at the local, national ,regional and international level. CAAYE members have committed to support young entrepreneurs across the Commonwealth-Asia region, build, appreciate and encourage youth entrepreneurship culture, create a network between member countries for mentorship, advisory and other relevant support services to young entrepreneurs, contribute to human capital development through education & training of young entrepreneurs , provide information on access to finance and other resources for young entrepreneurs and influence policy mechanism for youth entrepreneurial development.

First CAAYE 2012 Strategy & Work Planning Session

The Commonwealth Youth Programme Asia Centre, Commonwealth Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India organized a two-day Regional Consultation on Financial inclusion of Youth in New Delhi on February 8 9, 2012 with the objective to address the critical need for national financial inclusion policies having a 'youth' focus along with other vulnerable sections of the society. The meeting deliberated on some of the most critical issues, concerns and challenges faced both by aspiring young entrepreneurs as well as financial institutions and came up with a slew of recommendations to facilitate the access of youth to appropriate financial services and products. The Consultation was inaugurated by Mr R Gopalan, Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. While underpinning the need for a significant revamping of the existing structures and delivery of financial services appropriate for young people, he stressed the importance of innovative initiatives such as credit guarantee schemes and credit ratings which would help reduce the risk of lending institutions and at the same time meet the needs of aspiring young entrepreneurs. Young Indians represented India at the workshop.

The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is a non-profit organisation that hosts high-level forums for leaders from government, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share their vision on the most pressing issues in this dynamic region and the world at large. The Forum is committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries even closer to their development goals. Initiated in 1998 by Mr Fidel V Ramos, Former President of Philippines, Mr Bob Hawke, Former Prime Minister of Australia and Mr Morihiro Hosokawa, Former Prime Minister of Japan, the Boao Forum for Asia was formally inaugurated in February 2001. The founding of the BFA was driven by the People's Republic of China and founded by 26 Australasian states on 27 February 2001. Discussions at the BFA focus on economics, integration, cooperation, society, and the environment. In the past the forum also addressed China's entry into the World Trade Organization, as well as Southeast Asia's economic crisis during the 1990s. The geopolitical strategy 'China's peaceful rise' was a topic of discussion for the forum in 2004. In addition to its annual meeting, the BFA also sponsors other forums and meetings related to Asian issues. The Boao Youth Forum (Hong Kong) was organised in 2011 on the theme, Asian Economies in Remodeling: What We Can Do? at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 15 September 2011. Apart from a panel discussion on the theme of the summit, the forum also has sessions on Creative Asia: New Champion in Global Culture & Entertainment Industry, Internet in Transition What lies ahead? and on Education in Transition: Bridging gaps between high education structures and emerging demands of skilled labour and on Revitalising the Asian Finance Sector for Sustainable Economic Development, Under the panel discussion on education, the key themes focused were the difference between eastern and western education systems, the new requirements for the Asian Education System, the social and economic structures and how education structure and curriculum designs catch up with the pace of such changes. Mr Shankar Vanavarayar, National Chairman, CIIs Young Indians was a panellist in the panel discussion that focused on education and shared his views along with the other panellists that included Mr Tony F Chan, President of The Hong Kong University Of Science And Technology, Mr Andrew LEUNG Kwanyue, Chairman of Vocational Training Council & Mr WANG Zhenmin, Dean of Tsinghua Law School.

Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, not-forprofit, industry led and industry managed organisation playing a proactive role in India's development process. Yi was formed in the year 2002, with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation. Yi has around 1200 direct members in 24 city chapters, 80 members through the Infosys Corporate Chapter (InfYi) and around 12,000 members through its district chapter, Farmer Nets and Student Nets. Yi membership includes young progressive Indians between the age group of 25 & 40 and comprises entrepreneurs, professionals and achievers from different walks of life. To become the Voice of Young Indians Globally being the vision of Yi, it provides a platform for young Indians to participate in and contribute by becoming an integral part of the Indian growth story. Yi works effectively for promoting leadership skills for the development of its members through the learning programs and missions to companies of global excellence in India and abroad; the development and engagement of students through its 93 Student Net platforms that has 5578 students; and the Farmers Net platform that has enrolled more than 8500 young & progressive farmers providing them with real time agricultural inputs and know-how. Yi has successfully conducted campaigns and developed projects across the focus areas of education, environment, healthcare, next practices, employability and arts (sports & culture) contributing positively to its surrounding eco system and the nation. Through its initiatives like Akshara under Education, Yi has impacted more than 15000 students across 57 centers and has successfully managed campaigns like the SYightboard Project, providing blackboards to schools across different cities, reaching out to 1070 schools nationally and impacting approximately 2,53,000 children. Yi has been instrumental in skilling & placing 1300 youth under the aegis of its Employability program. Under the Healthcare initiative, over 175000 children have been dewormed in addition to many other health awareness programs across the community in different cities. Within the sphere of Environment, Yi conducts Green I contest to encourage and motivate school children to bring out sustainable green campuses through ideas, campaigns for tree plantation, solid waste management projects, involving citizens and children in the process. Yi is also in the process of planting one million saplings across the country through its One Million Tree Project. The Next Practices platform of Yi brings an opportunity for students and members to engage in a structured discussion to bring out of the box ideas and evolve solutions to common problems. This is implemented through the Blue Ocean Dialogue and the Packet of Seeds. Yi strives to engage members and students in cultural activities like musical concerts, visiting to heritage monuments for learning, traditional dinner,

celebrating the 100th year of the Indian National Anthem and initiatives that connect the youth with areas inclined towards Arts, Sports and Culture. Yi engages around 10000 people each year during the World Heritage Week. It has also worked with the Planning Commission of India in conducting consultation workshops across its chapters for accumulating a youth perspective to be included in the 12th Five Year Plan and with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India to facilitate missions of visiting delegations of young entrepreneurs to India from around the world. Yi also undertakes special projects and initiatives at the chapter level such as celebrating the 100th year of the Indian National Anthem, volunteering for the Joy of Giving Week, World Food month and many more. The National Summit of Yi is a yearly feature that helps the young minds to connect with people and organizations that have displayed excellence through their work and stand out as an inspiration to the youth today. Retreat to places of tourist and historical importance gives members an opportunity to meet in an informal atmosphere and network to enhance the organizations reach and value. With nine years of glorious past and decades ahead that promise nothing short, Yi intends to become a larger movement of young people and promote the attitude of We Can, We Will.
