JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY HYDERABAD B.Tech (CCC) I Year Regular Examinations January 2010 SURVEYING (CIVIL ENGINEERING) Time : 3 Hours Max. Marks :100 Answer Any Five Questions All Questions Carry Equal Marks --1.a) b) Explain the permanent adjustments of a transit theodolite. What are the fundamental lines of a transit? Give the desired relationships between them. [12+8] Obtain an expression for the difference of level between two points A and B, a considerable distance apart, B being the higher by vertical angle readings from the point A. Take into account the height of the instrument at A and the height of the target at B. What is the assumption made in obtaining your equation for the difference of level? [20] Explain how you would determine the constants of a tacheometer. What are the advantages of an anallactic lens used in tacheometer? The stadia readings with horizontal sight on a vertical staff held 50 m away from a tacheometer were 1.284 and 1.780. The focal length of object glass was 25 cm. The distance between the object glass and trunnion axis of the tacheometer was 15 cm. Calculate the stadia interval. [10+10] What are the different linear methods for setting out simple circular curves? Explain one method. Set out a circular curve by successive bisection method, given that the length of long chord is 100 m and the radius is 250 m. [10+10] What is meant by shift of a curve? Derive an expression for the same. Explain the various methods of determining the length of a transition curve. [10+10] What is meant by extension of a base line. Explain with neat sketches, how you would extend a given base line in the field. Two stations C and D 80 km apart are situated on either side of a sea. The reduced level of the axis of instrument at station C is 40.0 m above MSL. Calculate the minimum height of the signal at D, whose reduced level is 190 m, assuming co-efficient of refraction as 0.08 and the radius of earth is 6370 km. [12+8]

Describe different components of a phototheodolite. What is Stereo-photogrammetry? Explain Field Work and office work during Stereo photogrammetric survey. [10+10] Explain how the ground coordinates of points whose images appear in a vertical photograph are determined. A pair of photographs was taken with an aerial camera from an altitude of 4000m above MSL. The mean principal base measured is 8 mm. The difference in parallax between two points is 1.5 mm. Determine the difference in height between the two points if the elevation of the lower point is 450 m above MSL. Calculate the difference in elevation corresponding to parallax difference of 1.9 mm.
