1. (a) Write the various steps that are usually necessary for Gales Traverse table computation. [8+12] (b) The bearings of two inaccessible stations A and B taken from station C were 2250 00 and 1530 20 respectively. The coordinates of A and B were as under: Station Easting Northing A 300 200 A 400 150 Calculate the Independent co-ordinates of C. 2. The following reciprocal observations were made from two points: P and Q : [20] Horizontal distance between P and Q = 4860 m Angle of elevation of Q at P = 10 5 21 Angle of depression of P at Q = 10 0 50 Height of instrument at P = 1.35 m Height of signal at P = 6.10 m Height of instrument at Q = 1.38 m Height of signal at Q = 6.21 m Find the dierence in level between P and Q and the co-ecient of refraction. Take R sin 1 = 30.88 m 3. (a) Explain with the aid of necessary equation, how the use of an anallatic lens simplies computations while using a tacheometer. (b) Enumerate the dierent systems of tacheometric measurement. How would you determine the elevation of a point by tangential method when both the vertical angles are angles of depression. [8+12] 4. (a) What are the common diculties in setting out simple curves? Describe briey the methods employed in overcoming them. (b) A compound curve is to connect two straight having a deection angle of 900 . As determined from the plan, the lengths of the two tangents are 350 m and 400 m respectively. Calculate the length of the two arcs if the radius of the rst curve is 300 m. [10+10] 5. (a) A reverse curve of two equal circular arcs is to connect two parallel tangents, 9 m apart. If the distance between the connected points parallel to the straights is 81 m, nd the radius of the arcs. 1 of 2

(b) A reverse curve is to be set out between two parallel tangents 30 m apart. The line joining the two tangent points is 300 m. The two arcs of the curve have the same radius. Calculate the necessary data to set the curve on the eld by osets from a long chord at intervals of 20 m from the common tangent point. [10+10] 6. (a) What is meant by extension of a base line. Explain with neat sketches, how you would extend a given base line in the eld. (b) Two stations C and D 80 km apart are situated on either side of a sea. The reduced level of the axis of instrument at station C is 40.0 m above MSL. Calculate the minimum height of the signal at D, whose reduced level is 190 m, assuming co- ecient of refraction as 0.08 and the radius of earth is 6370 km. [12+8] 7. (a) List out the most common uses of Hydrographic surveys. (b) Explain the dierent preliminary steps required to be carried out before locating the details in hydrographic surveys. [8+12] 8. Explain about NRSA classication system.
