1. Pauls view of the Law is of central importance in the debate regarding the relationship of Christians to
the Law. The approach of the New Perspective has given new directions and challenged the traditional interpretations of the Pauline understanding of the Law, by re-examining mainly Judaism and providing fresh interpretations of Galatians. This research examines the questions posed by New Perspective in the interpretation of Galatians. The proposals of New Perspective and the efforts to respond to them, have been based mainly in the study of Judaism from a historical and theological perspective. Biblical Studies, though, and in particular the combination of the historical critical method with intertextuality (aided by elements of rhetorical analysis) have much to offer. This method examines the literary and theological context of the Old Testament verses that are used in Galatians 3, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 4:27, in the Old Testament, in Judaism and in Galatians. We presuppose and conclude that Paul is taking into consideration the theological and literary context of the Old Testament verses he is using, that he uses the methods of interpretation of his time, though he is applying his method through the lenses of the coming of the Messiah. We conclude that Paul is using the Old Testament verses in order to support his arguments analogically (Genesis 15, 6); to show a diachronic principle that is carried over to the New Testament from the Old (Habakkuk 2, 4); he combines the above (Deuteronomy 17, 26, Leviticus 18, 5) in order to support that his ministry is a prophetic fulfillment

(Genesis 12, 3/18, 18/, 22, 18), and an indirect (typological) prophetic fulfillment (Isaiah 54, 1) of the Old Testament. Paul uses the Old Testament verses critically in order to emphasize specific aspects (Genesis 12, 3/18, 18/22, 18). The above show that Paul is using the Old Testament verses contextually and is transferring the Old Testament context analogically to the Galatian circumstances. The Old Testament context of the verses used in Galatians 3 and 4 showed that Genesis 15, 6, Genesis 12, 3/18, 18/22, 18 are not used soteriologically but regarding the continuation of life in the Promised Land, while in Judaism some of them are used regarding the gaining of eternal / eschatological life. Therefore both the Old Testament context and the Galatian context, suggest that Galatians could be analyzed in a way similar to the Letter of Hebrews, not as a call to salvation but as a call to continue the fight of faith.
