SEAM ALLOWANCES & OTHER INFO Seam allowances for the zippers and ring cylinder are 3/4" or 2cm wide; all other edges are without seam allowances, but finished with a bound edge. All seams are sewn right sides together, unless otherwise started. Skills needed include: inserting a centered zipper; binding edges with bias binding; working with batting; makiing ties from bias binding; working a buttonhole & applying a button. ABOUT THIS STYLE This jewelry roll has a simple flat shape and construction, with zippers to seal the interior pockets and binding ties for closure. Now OF COURSE you're not going to make & fit a muslin for this...instead, just pin together the pieces so you can see how the jewelry roll goes together. SUGGESTED CUTTING LAYOUT FOR THE ROLL lay the fabric open for this layout... lay the lining out the same way. FABRIC & NOTIONS REQUIRED You' need around 12"/30 cm of 60"/150cm wide fabric; you'll need the same amount of lining & interfacing. To complete the jewelry roll you'll also need 1x 3/8' or 1cm diamter button; 2 x 8"/20cm long zippers; a scrap of thin batting about 20"/50cm long by 9"/23cm; plus about 2 1/4 yards or 2.05m self or contrast bias binding ...if you want to make your own bias binding, you'll need another 12"/30cm of 60'/150cm wide fabric.

Start by applying your interfacing to the inner pocket pieces, as well as the outer piece.

Insert the inner pocket zippers: sandwich the pocket fabric, zipper and pocket lining together like this, then sew along one side of the zipper tape.

Prepare the ring cylinder: join the long edges of the cylinder strip, and press open....

...then flatten the strip, making sure the seam allowances are centered, and close off one of the short ends... Press the fabric & lining back, then topstitch along the zipper edge, so it looks like this...

...turn the cylinder out, and stitch across the short closed end, about 1" down. Work a buttonhole across this flat section, then stuff the cylinder with batting, and baste this to the inner center section.

Join the remaining edges of the zippers to the inner center pice, and press the seam allowances towards the center. DO NOT topstitch along these edges of ther zippers yet!

Baste the inside pocket assembly to the lining; to complete the pockets, topstitch through all thicknesses, along the upper edges of each zipper. Attach the button for the ring cylinder...see the pattern for the suggested position.

Baste the batting to the wrong side of the outer piece. Baste the ties to the right side of the outer piece.

Now the inside is done, we're ready to make the outside layer, and complete the jewelry roll! Prepare the ties:run your bias binding through a binding maker, pressing as you go. Measure off a piece of binding, about 40" or 1m long, for the ties.Fold your binding in half lengthways, and edgestitch the long edges together.

Making very sure that the ties are safely out of the way(!!!) and sewing though all thicknesses, bind the edges of the jewelry roll. Press the bound edges flat.

Press flat, then cut the strip in half. Tie a small, tight knot at one end of each of the strips if you wish.
