INTRODUCTION A. COMPARISON BETWEEN VIRUS, PROKARYOTIC CELL, AND EUKARYOTIC CELL STRUCTURE
1. Viruses: submicroscopic, noncellular entities which consist only of genetic material (can be DNA or RNA) and a protein coat (capsid), with or without a lipoprotein envelope around the capsid. 2. Prokaryotes : cells which do not contain a nucleus or organelles (other than ribosomes). Bacteria (Unicellular life form) constitute prokaryotes.
3. Eukaryotes: cells which do contain a nucleus or organelles. They may be
unicellular life form (such as protozoa or plankton) or individual cells of multicellular organisms such as plants, animals or human beings.
TASK A Directions : Fill in the blank of the table bellow after you learn the literature you have found! Question Virus Prokaryotic Eukaryotic Cell Cell
is made out of a
cell or cells? has a nucleus? is considered living? can move on its own? can produce or replicate? has dna? has spesialized structure and internal compartments? may have a cell wall? has membranebound organelles? has ribosomes? has citoplasm? has chloroplast? has mitochondrion?
Based on your answers above, make conclusion about differences between virus, prokaryotic cell and eukaryotic cell
TASK B Directions: 1. See pictures about the structure of various viruses bellow. 2. Identify each part of virus structure. 3. Find the name of each part in Words Square and note it. 4. After you find all words that you need, fill the words in to the blank box at the picture. 5. Determine the functions of each part of virus structure.
