1) Finite element modeling for tractor chassis

The objective of the project was to prepare mesh for the chassis assemble of a tractor for conducting static analysis. Stringent quality criteria had to be maintained as per customer specification.

2) Couple-Field thermal strutural analysis of MCHX assembly, Carrier, Transicold division, USA
Type of analysis: Couple-Field (thermal-structural) analysis Description: The MCHX assembly consists of fins, cross pipes, header pipes, frames and bracket and all models are meshed using shell elements. Initially thermal analysis was carried out for the thermal boundary conditions and the thermal elements are all changed to structural element types. Load inputs for the structural analysis are the results from the thermal analysis. Structural boundary conditions are applied and solved for static structural case. Deliverables: Temperature displacement plots FEA Environment : distribution plots, Contour stress plots,

HyperMesh, ANSYS.

3) Static analysis of base frame

The project was to conduct a linear static analysis on the base frame of an injection molding machine. Different load cases like securing the machine, handled with lift truck, leveling by adjusting shims etc were conducted. The objective was to capture displacements, stresses and strains at various locations. Finite element modeling was done in Hypermesh with shell elements. Other components like oven, pneumatic panel and electric panel were modeled with mass element and connected to the frame with RBE3. Analysis and post processing was done in ANSYS. Software used : HYPERMESH, ANSYS

4) Modal analysis of cordon shaft

The objective of the project was to determine the natural frequencies of the cordon shaft of a cement mill and to modify the frequency, if it is near to its running speed. Also to check the effect of sleeve, attached to the shaft, on the natural frequency of the shaft. The problem was solved using two types of elements (2D beam element and axis symmetric element). The results were compared with the results obtained by theoretical calculation ( Rayleighs energy method and continuous system approach ). Software used : HYPERMESH, ANSYS

5) Modal analysis of condenser fan frame

Software used : Hypermesh, ANSYS

The objective of the project was to calculate the first 10 natural frequencies of a condenser fan frame, which is used in a refrigeration unit of a truck.

Finite element meshing of the component was done using Hypermesh 7.0 and solution and post processing was done in ANSYS.

6) Static analysis of Airmax

Software used : Hypermesh, ANSYS

Airmax is a tractor used to spray fertilizers. The objective of the project was to determine the stress and displacement on a bracket which supports a boom. The boom is a member on Airmax through which fertilizer is sprayed. The boom has a total weight of 616 lb and 250 inches in length. The project was to determine the reactions forces due to due to the weight of the boom at the bracket and to verify it analytically. The reaction forces thus obtained was applied on the bracket. Two designs were analysed and the results were compared for two load cases (boom in open and closed position). 7) Static analysis of steel saddle (Non linear) Software used : Hypermesh, ANSYS

Saddle is a component in a tractor used for agricultural purposes. The saddle provides support to a tank containing fertilizers. The tank is approximately of the size 1.6 m x 1.6 m x 1.6 m. It is placed over the saddle and the saddle in turn mounted to the chassis. The tank will be filled with fertilizers or pesticides for spraying in to the field. The objective of the project was to determine the stress and displacements due to pressure of fluid inside the tank and due to its self weight. Non linear material was used for the tank. Two analyses were conducted. One with steel saddle and the other one with polymer saddle. 8) Static analysis of gear box central housing Software used : Hypermesh, ANSYS

The project had mainly three cases (case 1, case1a and case 2). Three different models were analyzed in each case. The gear box housing was used in heavy duty tractors. The objective of the project was to mesh the given solid model in Hypermesh and to apply the supplied loads and boundary conditions in ANSYS and verify the results with the experimental results.

9) Optimization of plates
Software used OPTISTRUCT :HYPERMESH ANSYS, ANSYS WORKBENCH,

The objective of the project was to determine stresses on the back plate of a hydraulic piston cylinder assembly of a heavy duty tractor used for agricultural purposes. Trial analysis and optimization was conducted in Ansys work bench. Actual analysis was done in Ansys. Optimization was done in hyperworks Optistruct
10) Static analysis of compressor crank shaft (Non-linear contact)

Software used

Hypermesh, ANSYS

Loads on the crank at 12 different crank positions were provided. All the loads were applied on the crank as 12 different load cases. Non linear contact elements were used to simulate the contact between bearing and crank shaft. Extensive use of APDL commands helped us to reduce the project execution time by 25%.
11) Meshing of Genset truss (Baseline and proposed),

Software used :

Hypermesh

The objective of the project was to mesh the Genset truss (Baseline and proposed) in shell elements maintaining fine mesh at the weld connections with smooth transition to the course mesh area.
