1.

General Information
This specification for reactor filling materials covers an estimate for the supply of alumina balls and ceramic balls as supporting and protecting layers at the bottom and top of the catalyst beds. It is acceptable to install alumina balls instead of ceramic balls in R-35001, R-35002 and R-35005. It is not acceptable to install ceramic balls in R-35003.

2.
2.1

Alumina Balls
Operating Conditions The alumina balls are placed in the prereformer reactor, R-35003, according to the reactor specification, Drawing No. 4306822. The operating conditions for the alumina balls are as follows: Temperature, C, max. Pressure, kg/cm2 g, max. Gas composition 550 30.5 Naphtha or natural gas with varying content of CO, CO2, H2, CH4, N2 and steam

2.2

Mechanical Design Conditions The alumina balls must have a very high mechanical, thermal, and chemical stability so that they are neither damaged nor liberating volatile compounds when operating at high temperatures and pressures with a mixture of steam, natural gas and reducing process gas. The alumina balls must be of high density and non-porous. They must be pressed, not rolled.
