Protect sensitive low-voltage digital ICs

Digital communication ports are often susceptible to damage from high-voltage faults and ESD strikes. An overvoltage-protection IC can provide critical protection for communication protocols that cannot afford only a standard means of fault protection, such as large series resistors or large line capacitances.

Ultra-precision current monitoring for notebook power management

Low VOS with high gain accuracy enables precise current measurements at very small sense voltages
The MAX9922/MAX9923 current-sense amps have ultra-low input VOS. When VOS is low, smaller VSENSE voltages can be measured accurately. This allows the use of small sense resistors, thus reducing power dissipation and easing system design.

How to obtain the best performance from current-sense amps

Current-sense amp errors can affect overall performance if not properly taken into account

Effect of VOS
VOUT VOUT

Effect of GE
VOUT

Effect of VOL

VOL VSENSE VSENSE VSENSE

VOS affects the measurement of the low current range. It is important to have low VOS, so as to reduce the size of the sense resistor. Low VOS also increases the dynamic range of current measurement. Gain error affects this measurement in the higher current ranges and at full-scale. Sense resistor tolerance affects the total error of the measurement, and total error is given by the combination of VOS, GE, and RSENSE tolerance as per the equations below: VOUT = (G |GE|) x (VSENSE |VOS|) VSENSE = ILOAD x RSENSE
