more through English- The city of Vamcouver NASTAVNA METODA: mrk, OBLIK RADA: frontalni/ individualni/ rad u parovima TIP ASA: presentation CILJ ASA: The city of Vancouver wil be presented to the ss through the city guide. The ss will learn language through interesting geography data. OEKIVANI ISHODI: Ss will gain new vocabulary related to geography and climate: quality of life, rainfall, current, scenery, community, temperate, climate, minority.

ARTIKULACIJA ASA:
1. Warm up activity: The teacher will ask ss to number all English- speaking

countries. She will try to elicit which cities are the most famous in Canada. Then, she will tell the ss that they will learn something about Vancouver.

2. Presentation: The teacher will read the text. Then, she will read the key words

with ss repeating after her. She will try to elicit the meanings of the words. She will explain any unknown vocabulary, after asking them to use the context to guess the meanings of new words or check their ideas about the meaning of the key words. Then, the teacher will read the text again. The ss will follow in their books. The teacher will ask some general questions in order to check comprehension: Which other cities in Canada does the text mention? (Toronto, Montreal), Who was George Vancouver? (a British explorer), What industry is very successful in Vancouver? (film industry), What is similar to Vienna? (it has the same standard of quality of life), What two geographical features make it popular with tourists? (mountain, beaches), Why does it have a good climate? (because of the warm ocean current).

3. Practice: Each student will read a sentence from the text. If necessary the

teacher will correct their pronunciation.

4. Production: The ss will do the quiz in pairs (exercise 2, page 93). They will

make the notes of their answers in their notebooks.

5. Production: The class will read the text and check their answers. The teacher

will find out who got the most answers correct.

6. Homework: The ss are asked to choose a city which they have visited or they

are interested in and write short review about that city. They can do research on the internet and find information about thing like:

Its location. Its geographical features (e.g. is it on river?, is it near the sea or mountain?). Its climate. Its population (ethnic mix). The languages that people speak.
