WANTAGE METHODIST CHURCH LENT LITURGY 2012 1st Sunday in Lent Called to repentance

Readings Mark 2:15-17 and Mark 1:14 & 15 Leader - Repentance is about turning back to God in all aspects of our lives. As such it is a cleansing process. Repentance is not a single act, but an ongoing responsiveness to the will of God, a continuous experience made possible through the gift of grace. We are called to repentance in this time of Lent. Action - a bowl of water is placed at the foot of the cross.

Action place Amnesty International candle and barbed wire at the foot of the cross.

2nd Sunday in Lent Called to Listen


Reading Mark 9:2-7 Leader True listening involves our whole being. It involves our ears, our eyes, our heart, our undivided attention. We are called to listen attentively to Gods word, to his Son and also to the words of wisdom. Attentive listening can be life changing. Action the Chinese symbol for to listen is hung on the cross

3rd Sunday in Lent Called to demand justice


Readings Exodus 23:1-9, Micah 6:8b Leader In being called to demand justice, we must firstly act justly ourselves. Only then can we demand justice of others. Justice is not about seeking revenge. Justice is a concept of moral rightness based on ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion, or equity, along with the appropriate punishment for the breach of said ethics.

4th Sunday in Lent Mothering Sunday Called to love


Reading - 1 John 4:7-12 Leader Human love comes in all shapes and sizes. It is often flawed, and is often what might be termed conditional love. The love that we receive from God is a love that knows no limits. We are required to love as we have been loved by God. Action attach the heart to the cross

5th Sunday in Lent Called to seek


Readings Isaiah 55:6&7 and Matthew 6:33 & 7:7&8 Leader Seeking God is not always easy. Where do we start? We start with the knowledge that God is constantly there for us. He never goes away. Seeking him is about looking into our hearts and acknowledging our need for him. Seeking the Kingdom of God is about seeing God in everything, and acknowledging our need for God in our hearts to give us the courage to do this.
