TIPS WHEN ANSWERING THE ENGLISH PAPER (PAPER 2) SECTION A 1.

The task is to write 5 sentences based on the situation in the picture. 2. Sentences must be correct in grammar and structure. 3. You may or may not use the words given in the box. 4. VERY IMPORTANT : a. b. c. d. e. Identify the words given in the box that you know. Identify the main idea of the situation shown. Do not write more than 1 sentence for each number. Avoid putting yourself in the situation. Avoid using names for the people shown, unless you can clearly describe them from the rest. f. Avoid using colour to describe something or someone. g. Do not use Malay words in your writing unless it has no word in English. e.g. fried rice should be used instead of nasi goreng satay may be used since there is no word in English for it. h. Avoid using time frame to avoid writing a story. (e.g. Last week, Once upon a time, Yesterday) i. Avoid using sequence connectors like in writing a story. (e.g. First, Then, Next, After that) j. Write in Present Continuous Tense. e.g. The man is walking with his son. The children are playing in the park. k. l. m. n. Use simple and compound sentences. Use adjectives and your own words to describe the picture better. Make sure you pay attention to your punctuation. WRITE CLEARLY AND NEATLY.

SECTION B Question 2a 1. The task is to transfer information accurately and to appropriately from a text into a given framework. 2. VERY IMPORTANT : a. b. c. d. e. f. g. All answers must be correct in spelling. Proper nouns must be in the upper case. (capital letters) 1 mark is given for each correct answer. Keep your answer in its own box, do not write outside the boxes. Fill in by columns, from top to bottom. Use the given details in the table as your guide. Do not use capitals and small letters together. (e.g. : FrieD Rice, Rm ..) h. Always check your answers by referring to the text. Question 2b 1. The task is to make a choice and give reasons for the choice made. 2. VERY IMPORTANT : a. Write in paragraph form, not in point form. b. Read the question carefully to understand on what you are supposed to answer. (e.g. : for your mother , for your brother etc) c. Take your time to think before answering. d. State your choice clearly and write the reasons for your choice. e. Use cheap or expensive for the objects and low or high for the price. f. Draw a mind map to see the points and reasons clearly. g. Write the reasons in an organized manner.

SECTION C 1. The task is to write a story about the given pictures by using a variety of sentence patterns. 2. To use new words and expressions to make ones story interesting. 3. To write in a paragraph / paragraphs. 4. You may / may not use all the words given. 5. VERY IMPORTANT : a. Do not repeat your ideas. ( e.g. He plays football everyday. He plays football everyday with his friends.) b. You may change the order of the words/ notes given but it must fit the picture and the flow of the story. c. You may break up the phrases by inserting your own words correctly. d. Sometimes, it is not necessary to replace the dashes with words. e. Correct spellings and punctuation is very important. f. Avoid changing the tenses used in the given words/ notes. (to avoid confusion) g. All words given may or may not be used and you may change or replace with other words that are similar in meaning. h. Important Read the instructions carefully. ( You may use the words given / Use all the words given.) i. Have a short introduction and conclusion to the story if possible. j. Study the words given . Identify the tenses and the words used. k. Draft your sentences before writing then in your question paper. l. Try to have a variety of sentences e.g. Simple sentences and compound sentences. (e.g. Azman wan walking. He was alone. Azman was walking alone.) m. Add new words and interesting expressions but make sure that they suit the story. n. Always check your essay for possible mistakes made in grammar, spellings

and punctuation. o. Handwriting must be clear, neat and legible. p. There is no limit to the number of words or sentences. q. Do not waste time counting the number of words in your essay and writing the number down at the end of the essay. THE END
