3 The Key Competences


According to Key Competences for Lifelong Learning: European Reference Framework, (2007, p.3), competences are defined as a combination of knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to the context. Mobility key competences are those which individuals need for personal fulfilment and development, active citizenship, social inclusion and employment in a mobility context. This project will provide disadvantaged young people with seven internationally acknowledged vocational key competences (in bold) essential for their integration in further training and/or into the European labour market. Nevertheless the project has considered ten more competences that can help students to improve their mobility

Personal competences Motivation All forms of behaviour that show participation in the offered and accomplished exercises. Involvement, commitment, concern, following instructions, accomplishing the exercises Flexibility The ability to adapt to new situations, awareness of opportunities, searching for new experiences (in a different country, city, etc.) and willingness to reflect on personal habits and to change these. . Creativity Resilience The ability to express ideas, experiences, emotions in a creative way, to solve problems in an unusual/ new/ different way. Sense of initiative to turn ideas into action or to solve problems. The ability to deal with mishaps in ones behaviour or work, acceptance of suggestions for improvement. Coping with pressure or setbacks

Social competences Communication The ability to express and interpret concepts, thoughts and feelings, facts skills and opinions in the mother tongue. Listening, speaking, reading and writing in a full range of societal and cultural contexts. Foreign language skills: the ability to communicate in a foreign language. The level of proficiency depends on several factors. Interaction in a creative way communicating in a foreign language.

Empathy

The ability to care and understand others. It is linked to personal and social well-being.

The ability to put oneself in someone elses place, to see problems from someone elses perspective. Cooperation The ability to work in a team, to participate in an effective way, he/she helps group members and asks for help to accomplish a task and to compromise Methodological competences Planning The ability to organise and to structure the given work tasks to achieve an Organization effective outcome (considering technical, administrative and personal conditions). Concentration: The capacity to concentrate as long as necessary on the content of ones own work. The ability to pursue and organise ones own learning, either individually or in groups, in accordance with ones own needs, and awareness of methods and opportunities.

Learning attitude

The ability to understand important information, to remember facts and to release the important information at any time, or to ask for help when needed. Comprehension: Distinguishes and understands important information and perceives their meanings. Ability to solve The ability to recognise the meaning of new topics, problems and problems situations and solve them in a given period of time by using different strategies. .
