This is a first person account of a journalist in the Congo who witnessed the terrible plight of the Congolese people. Even after the revolution, the quality of life for the average Congo citizen did not improve. In this account the journalist met UN peacekeepers, the only force preventing regional warlords from raiding the villages and surrounding countryside that they were stationed in. Glvez, William. This is the first person account from Ernesto Che Guevara, an Argentinean Marxist revolutionary who traveled to the Congo to avenge the death of Patrice Lumumba, an African independence leader. It shows how the original tenants of the revolution in the Congo have been ignored and how power hungry revolutionary leaders broke promises of freedom and equality. This book chronicles many African countries from the first civilizations of Africa to modern day states. It helped give a background to the revolution and how it came about. This book gives insight on how one of the various ethnic tribes was affected by the Congo Revolution and where they are now. Adinoyi-Ojo, Onukaba. Mbuti. New York: Rosen Pub. Group, 1996. Print. This book shows how another ethnic group native to the Congo region was affected by the revolution.

This website contained a speech by Patrice Lumumba of which I quoted. "The Hyperinflation in Zaire from the 1988 to 1997." Powering Silicon Valley. Web. 18 Mar. 2012. <http://www.sjsu.edu/faculty/watkins/zaireinfl.htm>. This website contained IMF documents about Zaire (Democratic Republic of Congo). They were extremely helpful to show how Mobutu ruined the economy of the country.
