Unit Summary:

Students will be grouped into 8. Each group is assigned to a particular part of speech. The groups will discuss the assigned topic to them in a creative way. Two groups will present each session. After each presentation of the groups in a session, assessment will also be given . The teacher will give assignment for the students in every session: Day 1: list the importance and contribute of correct and appropriate use of parts of speech in communication; Day 2: create a narrative essay about their unforgettable experience; Day 3: make sample sentences using the correct and appropriate adverb and preposition in a sentence; Day 4: analyze and identify the Conjunctions and interjections present in a given selection to them; Day 5: make a multimedia presentation about the importance of the correct and appropriate use of figures of speech in speaking and writing with the use of English as a second language. The last day also which is the day 5 will be the assessment day for the whole unit .

their most unforgettable experience in life. Students will develop a multimedia presentation to communicate ideas about the importance of correct usage of parts of speech.
Procedures:

NOTE:topics are given a week before the unit starts. Each group will rate and assess the presentations of other groups using a rubric. Day 1 Teachers introduction of the topic and the presentation of Group 1 and 2 Group 1 and 2 presentation: Commercial (noun and pronoun) The teacher will have a brief discussion of the parts of speech . For additional inputs visits this website: http://www.uottawa.ca/academic/arts/writcent/hypergrammar/partsp.html After the discussion of the teacher ,presentation of group 1 and 2 will follow. After the discussion each group will give an assessment to their classmates. Assignment: Students will be assigned to list the importance and contribute of correct and appropriate use of parts of speech in communication. Day 2 Presentation of groups 3 and 4: Beauty pageant (verb and adjectives) Group 3 will be the first presenter followed by group 4. After the discussions of the two groups, assessment will follow to be given by group 3 and 4. Assignment: the assignment will be given by the teacher. Students will create a narrative essay about their unforgettable experience. The verbs and adjective present in their narrative should be underlined and label accordingly: V for verb and A for adjective. Day 3 Presentations of group 5 and 6:Beat Poetry (Adverb and preposition) Group 5 and 6 will present to the assigned topic for them by beat poetry. Assessment will then follow after the presentation to be conducted by groups 5 and 6. Assignment: Students will make sample sentences using the correct and appropriate adverb and preposition in a sentence. Day 4 Presentations of group 7 and 8:Talk Show ( Conjunctions and interjections) Group 7 and 8 will present a talk show in class about conjunctions and interjections. After the presentation a 20 item exam will follow. Assignment: The students are assigned to analyze and identify the Conjunctions and interjections present in a given selection to them. Day 5

Review of the lesson/Teachers inputs of the lesson/Assessment(Quiz on the unit)/Assignment The teacher will have a recap about the lesson from day 1 until day 4. Question and answer portion will then follow for the students to fully understand the lesson. After which, the teacher will give her inputs about the lesson. Then a 40 item test will follow. Assignment: With the same groupings the teacher will assigned each group to make a multimedia presentation about the importance of the correct and appropriate use of figures of speech in speaking and writing with the use of English as a second language.

Approximate Time Needed:

Each group is assigned to a particular parts of speech one week before the unit starts. The unit will take one week to complete. Two groups will have to present each session. The fifth day will be summative test for the 8 Parts of Speech.
Prerequisite Skills:

Conceptual The students must be able to: 1. Identify Basic sentence pattern. 2. Identify Basic parts of a sentence. 3. Distinguished between subject and predicate. 4. Construct good and substantial sentences.

5. Distinguished among verb, noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, preposition , conjunction and
interjection.

6. Give and formulate substantial ideas in explaining a given concept.
