Community Involvement Night

Written by: Sean Heagerty
Community Involvement Night was on February 27th and it was a lot of fun. Several organizations stopped by and were passing out information. In attendance were the Palouse Habitat for Humanity, Appaloosa Horse Club, Disability Action Center, Alternatives To Violence of the Palouse, and Young Life. Each of these were very interesting. The Alternatives to Violence outlined a support group for victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking. The Appaloosa Horse Club described the museum which works to preserve the history of this breed of horse. The Disability Action Center helps people overcome handicaps, physical or not. The Habitat for Humanity helps to provide houses for people in the Palouse by building affordable houses and helping to keep costs low. Finally, Young Life was there, a Christian organization which seemed to just be a community builder and tries to spread Christianity to those who might not have had any real chance to learn about it.

Your Timeline
Written by:Ben Fujii

Most Americans enjoy their privacy. Yet, ironically, many share important details about their lives over the internet. Not on accident, but very much so on purpose. Close to 600 million people use Facebook now and many include what would normally have been categorized as private information. To make matters worse, the new Facebook feature Timeline have made the flow of private information even more dramatic. Allowing users and outside views to see posts that have been marked as private, Timeline may be causing more harm than good. One can select hide from Timeline however that has to occur for every single post. Instead, for those of you who are worried about your

privacy I suggest you check out this link: http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY02oqcUCv8 This video will allow you to change back to a sudo previous Facebook layout and will solve many of your privacy issues. Or of course, just get rid of Facebook altogether.

Ron Paul Visits UI

By: Samantha Widner Former Texas congressman and republican presidential candidate hopeful Ron Paul visited the University of Idaho Friday afternoon and was greeted by a standing ovation in an auditorium from thousands of supporters. So many supporters showed up that quite a few stood outside while attempting to hear Paul speak. During all the excitement two supporters in the audience fainted. One ended up lying on the oor in back, while a woman was taken away by paramedics. Paul

began his speech by saying "We certainly have been blessed in living in a country such as ours it has been based on liberty, based on the Constitution and based on the goodness of mankind." Paul also spoke about unemployment, foreign policy, and going so far as to criticize Obama about his polices on the Patriot Act. Paul nished his speech asking his supporters to vote for him on March 6th in Idahos caucuses also known as Super Tuesday. Paul's visit to the region is thought to be the rst visit by a presidential candidate in 30 years.

A Step-by-Step Guide For Putting On Pants

Most people know how to put on pants, but sometimes it isnt as easy as it seems. Not knowing how to put on pants can be very uncomfortable, both physically and emotionally. In these colder months, it can be very unfortunate to not know how to wear pants. The rst step is to hold them by the waist so that the front is facing away from you. This will allow you to easily progress through the following steps. The next step is to place one leg into the corresponding leg of the pants and pull the pants up part way. You then place your other leg into the other leg of the pants and pull

your pants up until the waist reaches your waist and you have successfully put on a pair of pants. Wear them well, my friends.

Slow and Bulky

Written By: Sean Heagerty The government is becoming slow and inefficient. I dont think most people would argue this. The problem, however, is that the government is in charge of managing a lot of people and policies. Slow and inefficient is something we cant afford in something so important. We need a fast, effective government that can efficiently deal with the problems and the needs of the people. Many consider the government great, and I do not argue such a point. I merely wish to stress that the government is stressed and over strained. I feel that constant arguing and pushing of individual agendas has left the needs of the people an afterthought as politicians begin to mistake their opinions for that of the people. Perhaps someday, our government will adjust to the number of people it manages, but until then, I suppose we must grin and bear it.

I cant help but look. No, Im not upset, just confused. Since when were sweatpants, under armor tees, and the most flamboyant pair of Beats headphones a fashion statement. Oh, sure, you say its not but I know you feel included when you sport it. The point of fashion is to make a statement about you, your values, beliefs, principals. This particular fashion statement just shouts bro to me. Sure, you can argue that a limited college budget and no one telling you what to wear anymore (parents or old high schools/grade schools). Naturally, the sweat pants may appear to be within your so called limited college budget, however the under armor and Beats headphones (along with the white iPhone) are definitely not. Now, what is the point of college, is it to have a good time, or is it to pursue a better life for not only yourself but also those you care about. Some may argue (through their actions) the first, and they are of course free to believe this. Parallel to their party lifestyle are the clothes, the pink (by Victorias Secret), the yoga pants (worn all day), the sweat pants, and the nondistinct tees. Normally I would have no issue this that, but every single day seems a little excessive. If you are like me, and still view college as a means to a better life, at least treat it that way. Teachers, Administrators, and possible employers see you every day on campus. One day you are going to need to ask for a letter of recommendation, try to get a better grade, ask for a scholarship, or even apply for a job. How do they see you? Well you are that student that they see sporting the standard college attire. Make yourself stand out, make them remember you. Make them remember you with a positive attitude, one of respect. Aside from speaking face to face with those of importance on our college campus, the next best way to have yourself remembered with a positive attitude is to dress to impress. Now I dont mean wearing a tux every day. Just wear something that shows you care about how others see you. That is why Im a prep. Sure dressing this way is a bit more expensive, but hey so is your iPhone/Beats combo. Ivy style conveys a sense of grandeur, a style that says, I expect nothing but the best. Every great individual of our country had a style that showed care and thought about how they wanted us to see them. Many of them also sported a preppy style. JFK and his wife Jacquelin, for instance dressed preppy, defining for many the ivy way.

So, who do you really want your teachers and future employers to see you as? These bros:

Spring Into Fashion

Add a spring to your wallet

In times like these us girls have to pinch a penny or two, but not to the extent that we pinch our style. So my best friend and I went out to do some girl to girl, store to store research. We went out to find the best deals at the stores with the best options. A.k.a the cutest clothes ;) Guess who the winner was! Ross of course. Finding the perfect spring outfit wasnt hard to do in a store with all the fundamental bases of a colorful, cute outfit. Just follow along and check out what we found on our little adventure.

These red shoes go right along with the bold color pattern

So this strapless green dress and bright yellow cardigan were just so awesome. The colors pop and all I can say is the butterflies in may are going to love you. Guess how much it costs to wear it? $33... at a regular retail store the dress alone would cost at least $20 and the cardigan at least $50.

These nude shoes are a bit less look at me than the red. And of course a nude heel makes your legs look longer. Written by: Emily Fisher

Spring Break Facebook Posts

By: Samantha Widner

Spring break is the perfect opportunity to make a careless mistake and damage your reputation and hurt future job prospects. With some helpful reminders, you can decide whether that Facebook post will make or break you for the rest of the year. 1. Keep it classy: We all know that there will be some crazy parties over break where pictures will inevitably be taken but that doesnt mean they need to be posted on Facebook. If you and your friends are doing something that would make Snooki proud chances are those photos would be better off deleted or in a shoe box in the back of a closet. 2. TMI: Its nice to know what your friends are doing over break but there is a line between just enough and I didnt need to know that. If your post has the phrase pregnancy scare, walk of shame, hook up, or wet t-shirt you may want to reconsider your post. If you wouldnt tell a friend about it dont put it on Facebook.

3. PDA: Spring break can be a time for a romantic getaway for couples and theres nothing wrong with posting how excited you are about your trip. With that in mind remember no one wants to see a picture of you making out with your signicant other, or a post that goes into graphic detail. 4. Drinking: If youre underage have a Coke. For everyone else remember theres nothing wrong with cutting loose but at the same time keep in mind there has never been a cool picture taken of someone puking off a balcony.

How to Dress Nicely

Written by: Sean Heagerty Listen close and I shall pass onto you all the fashion wisdom I (and some of my friends) have. First, refrain from wearing rival schools colors. This is a mistake I have made far too many times than I care to admit. The next thing is dont wear socks and sandals it makes all of us sad. I have also been told that yoga pants are good for yoga, so please dont use them elsewhere. Also, tying your sweater around your waist may be convenient, but it can apparently be very unfashionable. And here we come to the end of my depressingly short fashion knowledge.

transaction. It was a brilliant move, and the dollar ourished ever since. However, now Iran is threatening to move away from using the dollar as their oil currency. This sounds familiar however Who was the last country to do this? Iraq. What did we do to them? Right, we blew them up. So, Iran you are next, apparently, and we want you to keep using the petrodollar. Some may argue (Newt Gingrich) that we get our oil from Iran also; however this is denitely not true. In fact not a drop of Iranian oil is purchased by the United States for our use. So, the oil based warfare must only be about one thing and one thing only. The petrodollar. Is it right? I dont know, however if one country switches away to a more stable currency such as the Swiss Franc, I can guarantee an economic downturn far greater than this so called Great Depression.

Iran, a country of many conicts (not to mention a very angry leadership), nuclear power, oil, differing views, and what to do with them? Portions of our country are calling for more than just sanctions. War! War is our favorite go to solution for when we dont get our way. Now, why did we get mad at Iran in the rst pace? Well, simply put, the petrodollar. Back when Nixon decided to get rid of the gold standard, he realized he needed something else to stay peed to the newly formed dollar. He therefore decided to convince Saudi Arabia to switch from their gold standard to the petrodollar. This way the US dollar would stay pegged to both gold and oil. However in the case of oil, it so happened that all oil from there on out was bought and sold using the American Dollar. This way, if a country wanted to sell or purchase oil, they rst had to buy a stash of Dollars from the United States to complete the

Must See Movies: Movies in Review

Written by Samantha Widner

Not everybody is going to be going to fabulous vacation destinations over spring break. In fact a majority of people are going to head home to see friends, family, and eat a shocking amount of junk food. While you are enjoying your down time here are ve recommendations for movies that are a must see.

will have you laughing the whole time at the way it makes fun of relationships and ahhing at the clichd moments it makes fun of.

3. The Help: Placed in the racially charged sixtys this movie will at times have you horried at the
treatment of the maids while at other such as Minnys pie incident have you laughing.

4. Captain America: A piece of the puzzle that is leading up to the Avengers, Captain America proves
that sometimes the little man can be a hero too.

5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2: We nally get to see the battle thats been in the making
for the last 10 years.

The Power of Weather

Written by: Michelle Aoi

An extra loud conversation, an unexplained feeling of excitement and laughter over nothing, these expressions can be seen and hear all throughout campus. These feelings and outbursts arent due to a new movie or an upcoming concert but to a yearly change in the weather. This change in the weather comes with the singing of birds, melting of snow and increased sunshine and warmth. Spring makes us want to leave our stuffy rooms. It gets us excited for shorts and tank tops. Spring awakens a child that was buried underneath too much snow and cold. On that rst exceptionally warm day of spring one can nd many people walking about in an very little clothing, ladies are seen in short shorts and tank tops, guys will be found in nothing but shorts and a t-shirt. Spring makes us all feel a little giddy and excited to get out in the world. It brings out an excitement and energy that was put into hibernation after all those cold winter days. The coming of spring means the coming of

many more outdoor activities. Spring is a gateway to outdoor activities and the excitement to play outside. With spring comes a variety of different outdoor activities such as, sand volleyball, Frisbee, Frisbee golf, outdoor soccer, hiking, biking, golf, many other amazing experiences. With these outdoor activities comes a friendliness that can only be seen during the rst moments of spring. Walking around campus a person can be seen playing a game with people that they barely know or may have just met seconds ago. With the warmth in spring people gain a certain kind of warmth for each other. Spring has an effect on every person. It cannot be explained nor can it be helped. It is amazing and unexplainable the effect spring has on every aspect of a person. For even a day it can take the coldest, most boring person and turn them into someone who breaks out in unexplainable giggles and play outside and make friends with those theyve just met.

California. I cant tell you how excited I am to spend my spring break basking in the warm sunlight that is Manhattan Beach. Moscow has its perks, but I can only stand so many months of cold, overcast weather. I have been to California several times before, but let me just say it never gets old.
