Homeopathy is the medicine of the future. It is expanding rapidly in popularity the evidence being, for a system which is just 200 years old, homeopathy, according to WHO, is the second largest system of medicine today, with over 500 million adherents, or followers, worldwide. Homeopathy works to eliminate illness, or disease, completely from the body even when no diagnosis is arrived at. On the other hand, the central premise of conventional, or modern medicine (allopathy), is to control, or manage, illness and merely deal with the apparent symptoms. Homeopathy is holistic, or individualistic, medicine. It takes into account the individual, or the person, as one whole, not just a set of parts, consisting of organs, or tissues, while allopathy merely compartmentalises the human being as composed of parts it also does not take into account the body's self-healing capacity. Homeopathy actually helps the body to heal itself naturally, from the inside-out, and not just from the surface. Diseases, according to allopathy, is measured and calibrated, while in homeopathy, any change in the physical, mental, emotional, or psychological state, is considered as imbalance and taken into account and treated. Allopathic drugs, or medications, are associated with side-effects and illnesses or, drug-induced (iatrogenic) diseases, a growing concern today. On the contrary, highly diluted homeopathic remedies, taken under the supervision of professional doctors, are safe and free of side-effects. Besides, homeopathic remedies do not interfere with conventional (allopathic) drugs. We all respond to illnesses in our own way even when the illness is the same by name. In simple terms, homeopathy suggests that symptoms are the bodys warning signs and failed attempts to restore balance, harmony, health and well-being. Let us consider a common example, allergy. Individuals having allergy present with a range of conflicting symptoms. Their associated characteristics also vary in many ways, including the type of sneezing, the form of skin eruption, if any, or food allergy, or sensitivity, what gives relief, or what aggravates the condition. Some individuals with allergy may have a burning sensation, or fiery red rash, but would possibly desire, or feel better by, warmth perhaps, a steaming cup of coffee!

Is this not a paradox and, yet, an individual-specific response? This is precisely what homeopathy looks at, analyses and treats. In modern medicine (allopathy), symptoms of a given illness is treated with the same medicine, without giving due consideration to the individuals personality, or response to illness. With modern healthcare and professionals focusing on preventative medicine, along with therapeutic medicine, the idea of working towards an overall sense of well-being, instead of merely keeping people disease-free, is gaining ground. Studies now illustrate that a large number of illnesses or diseases are actually due to faulty dietary habits, or erratic lifestyles and also what goes on in ones mind in other words, emotional stress. Simple measures, such as healthy eating, regular exercise and adequate relaxation, as homeopathy espouses, can go a long way in restoring balance. In the recent past, homeopathy is being increasingly explained on the basis of quantum physics, bioenergetics, molecular memory and nanopharmacology. The use of spectroscopy and thin layer chromatography (TLC), a major technological breakthrough, among others, has also made it possible to actually decipher the minute amount/s of the medicinal substance/s present in homeopathic remedies, while differentiating them in their various dilutions, or potencies, and also medicinal action. Put simply, homeopathy strongly connects to the fundamental notation of our mind-body interconnectedness to protect the core of its being in both health and illness. It provides the invigorating, stimulating push to our bodily mechanisms to correct themselves in illness states and, in so doing, helps us to achieve optimal health and well-being. This, in its totality, summarises homeopathy and its growing need today towards making medicine gentle, safe, effective, and also humane.
