Tutorial: 3-Phase AC Circuits Q 1.

In a three-phase balanced Y-Y system, the source is an abc-sequence set of voltages with Van = 12040V rms. The per phase impedance of the load is 10 + j8. If the line impedance per phase is 0.6 + j0.4, find the line currents and load voltages. Q2. An abc-sequence set of voltages feeds a balanced three-phase Y-Y system. If Van = 44040 V rms, VAN = 41039 V rms and the line impedance is 1.5 + j1.0, find the load impedance. Q3. In a balanced three-phase Y-delta system, the source has an abc-phase sequence and Van = 12030V rms. The line and load impedance are 0.6 + j0.4 and 24 + j12, respectively. Find the Phase currents (delta currents) in the load. Tutorial: 3-Phase Power measurement and Magnetic Circuit

Find the value of current required to establish a flux density of 1.2 T in the air gap. Q.4 The two watt-meter reading for a balanced three phase load are 300W and 100W respectively. If the supply voltage is 400V, calculate the total real power, the line current, the power factor and also the reactive power supplied to the load. Q.5 A balanced delta connected load of impedance 16+j12 ohm/phase is connected to a 3phase 400V supply. Find the phase current, line current, power factor, real power, reactive power and complex power.

Tutorial: Transformer
Q1. A 400 kVA transformer has a primary winding resistance of 0.5 and a secondary winding resistance of 0.001. The iron loss is 2.5kW and the primary and secondary voltages are 5 kV and 320V respectively. If the power factor of the load is 0.85, determine the efficiency of the transformer (a) on full load, and (b) on half load. Q2. A 500 kVA transformer has a full load copper loss of 4kW and an iron loss of 2.5kW. Determine (a) the output kVA at which the efficiency of the transformer is a maximum, and (b) the maximum efficiency, assuming the power factor of the load is 0.75. Q.3 The output stage of an amplifier has an output resistance of 112. Calculate the optimum turns ratio of a transformer which would match a load resistance of 7 to the output resistance of the amplifier. Q4. The O.C and S.C test data are given below for a single phase, 5 kVA, 200V/400V, 50Hz
