Sources of water in Dili

Community in Dili get their water from:
Government
SAS (Servicos de Aguas e Saneamento) Water Treatment Plant

Private
Well, Sanyo, Mota Pompa, River Water, and etc

Commercial
Bottled water (We Moris, H20, Aqua and ect)

Mota Pompa

SAS

Water Treatment Plant

River Water

Water Treatment Plant

In Dili there are 3 WTPs (Manleuana, Becora and Lahane) WTPs were emergency project funded by Japanese Government Sources of water: surface water (river) The process of treatment consist of
Coagulation Sedimentation Rapid Sand Filter

SAS (Servicos de Agua e Saneamento)

Location: Delta Nova Type of water: Underground Water Services: SAS supply water to community Amount of water:
Maximum : 256,900 Liter/Day Minimum : 189, 300 Liter/Day

Commercial Water
Visited We Moris plant but due to companys confidentiality hence they did not share any info However from random interview with customers, they consume 3-5 gallons of water/week* * Vary from one household to other

Private water
Private water: water which community dig by themselves Due to poor water distribution, many communities choose to find their own water sources. The sources are: Well, Mota Pompa, River water and ect Some even illegally get their water(leakage)

So where does wastewater goes?

In Timor Leste, as far as I know, there are no Sewage Treatment Plants(STP) so all of the community discharge their wastewater to:
Septic Tank Canal Rivers And ended up in Dili Sea

Conclusion
Water sources: Government, Private and Commercial Water Treatment Process: Coagulation, Sedimentation and Rapid Sand Filter Wastewater discharge to: septic tank, canal, river and sea

Recommendation
All the water treatment process requires power supply but in Dili there is always power bleak out hence it recommend to have their own backup power supply Inside rapid sand filter, they need include adsorption layer (activated carbon) to remove dissolved organics Sludge from sedimentation tank need to have proper disposal or dewatering instead of discharge directly back to river Community can have another option for source of water: Rain Water Harvesting Improve water and irrigation canal in Dili Law enforcement to prevent river and canal pollution Construct Sewage treatment plant Law and regulation enforcement Public awareness
