SAINT NICHOLAS: Pupils showed their caring side when they took part in harvest festival celebrations on Friday. Younger children at the school in Hobbs Cross Road, Old Harlow, attended a special harvest service and then delivered gifts of food to elderly people living in the local area. Older pupils each donated a 1 which will go towards the costs of a Christmas party which the school holds every for local pensioners. Special guests were the Rev David Welch, from St Marys Church in Churchgate Street, and his curate Ola Franklin. It is such a lovely event, said school spokeswoman Brenda Newland. The parents are always very generous in the amount of produce that they donate.

BUSY BEES NURSERY: Tots had a blast when they celebrated Space Week with a number of out-of-this-world activities. They dressed up as their favourite sci-fi characters to watch a space rocket touch down at the nursery in Harlow Business Park before learning all about the solar system.

The fun-packed week also saw the children help to bake space cakes, conduct experiments and draw pictures of aliens. Nursery manager Kim Shinn said: We had lots of fun with the space theme throughout the week and the children all had a fantastic time dressing up and learning more about the planets and outer space. DIZZY DUCKS NURSERY: Harlow MP Robert Halfon was invited to cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the new nursery in the state-of-the-art Harlow Leisurezone complex. The nursery, which is based at the new sport and leisure centre in Second Avenue, opened its doors for the first time in June. However, the official launch was put back until Friday when there was a party for he children after the opening ceremony. Nursery's operations manager Claire Hunt said: It was an absolutely brilliant day. The children loved meeting Mr Halfon and having their photos taken with him. Everyone was very excited that he could make it.
