Installing Chemdraw Ultra 12 on MS Windows / OS X.


Chemdraw is an industry leader in the field of chemical drawing programs. The University of Southampton holds an educational site license for this software, which allows it to be installed on PCs, free of charge, for home office and personal use. These instructions are intended for the software to be installed on non-UDE machines. For UDE machines the software will be available via the Additional Software Icon found on the desktop. Only members of staff and students, who are currently attending The University of Southampton, are entitled to use these codes under the Site License Agreement. The license code that you receive will be valid till 1 September 2010. After this date, you will need to re-apply for a new license. There is a mailing list that ISS will use to advise ChemDraw users of issues surrounding the software. You can subscribe to this list by sending an e-mail with the word Subscribe in, to sw-distrib-chem-request@lists.soton.ac.uk. Pre-requisites for Installation. Ensure that you have closed any application that is running, before commencing the install. That you have read and understood the instructions. It is recommended that a printed copy is obtained before commencing the installation. Ensure that you are logged in to the workstation, with an account that has administrative privileges. Register with CambridgeSoft (MS Windows and OS X) To install ChemDraw on your PC you will need to register with Cambridgesoft, in order to obtain a serial number for the software. Go to http://scistore.cambridgesoft.com/sitelicense.cfm?sid=1149 You will be asked to enter an e-mail address. This must be your University of Southampton one. CambridgeSoft will not accept registration from a nonuniversity address. You will be presented with a CambridgeSoft Membership Center login screen. In order to get a login with CambridgeSoft, first time users will be required to register. Click the register button to do this. Enter the required information (highlighted by a red asterix) on the form, and select register. When you first register with the site, you will be sent an e-mail containing your personal serial number required to run the software. This can take up to 20 minutes. Do not delete this e-mail as it may be required should you need to reinstall the software at a future date. You will only receive one serial code per Email address. The Email will contain codes for both Windows and Apple MAC OS X installations. Once you have registered with CambridgeSoft you can login to their member centre to obtain the software. Use your e-mail address and the password that you specified in the registration process. You will be shown the CambridgeSoft Fulfilment System. From here you can download the software for either MS Windows or Apple Mac OS X. PDF copies of the manuals can also be obtained here.

Installing on MS Windows XP/Vista Login to the CambridgeSoft website using the account created during registration. You will need your serial number supplied earlier. Download and run the file cdu120.exe. Temporary Installation files will be placed in the c:\cstemp directory. The ChemDraw Ultra 12 Installer will start and you will be presented with the window on the right. Enter details for your Name, Organisation (University of Southampton) and Email Address (University e-mail address). Enter the serial number given earlier. Select the Activate over Internet option. You will be informed if the activation is successful. Click OK to continue. The installation will start. Accept the license agreement when prompted. Select if you want to do a complete or custom install of the software. Install to the default installation directory. You will be informed when the installation is complete. Click Finish to end it. Options to run ChemDraw can be found in CambridgeSoft\ChemBioOffice 2010 on the Start Menu.

Installing On Apple Macintosh OS X Login to the CambridgeSoft website using the account created during the registration process. You will also need the Serial Number and Registration code supplied in the registration e-mail. Download the file CDU120.DMG, and click on it to open it. You will be presented with a finder window, containing the program Install ChemDraw Ultra. Run this. Accept the license agreement. On the next screen, select the option to do an Easy Install. Select the install button. You will be presented with the Personalize Your Software Window, as shown on the right. Enter your Name, and University Of Southampton as the organisation. The required Serial Number and Registration Code will be supplied in your Registration E-mail. When complete click the register button. The installation will now proceed. If required register your software. Chemdraw is now installed.
