NJ SPCA suspends Morris County Chapter after the president, James Osorio, accidentally shoots himself in the leg. Posted by George DeGiovanni, Best Friends Network. James Osorio, president but identifies himself as Chief of the Morris County SPCA, accidentally shot himself on Wednesday around 12:15 with a 9 mm handgun that he was cleaning inside his personal vehicle. He was freelancing as an unarmed Security Officer for the Temple Bnai Abraham in Livingston. As of right now, there are no charges filed against him pending an investigation. He is suspected of carrying the 9 mm without any authorization. The NJ State SPCA Superintendent, Frank Rizzo, has suspended the enforcement activities of the Morris County Chapter and the State SPCA will be handling the countys enforcement. SPCA spokesman, Matt Stanton, says that they need to check out what is happening in the Morris County Chapter. Osorio had filed a firearm carry permit with the NJ State Police but the state SPCA has not been notified as of yet that he has received the carry permit. This is one of many black marks against President Osorio. Osorio has also brought animal cruelty charges against a family in Mendham Twp and has failed to appear for the hearing twice, the second time being on Wednesday, the day he shot himself. Originally the case was schedule for trial on Nov. 8th. This particular case was about a Lab-terrier mix, 14 year old dog named Bobby Joe. The Button family had him since he was a puppy, that was until Sept 10th. A passerby with good intentions called the Mendham police stating they saw Bobby Joe was thin and hobbling on the property. Osorio, a SPCA officer and an ACO from St. Huberts went to the Buttons home and questioned them about Bobby Joe. The dog was seized and then killed on September 24th. St. Huberts received a letter from President Osorio stating that after consulting with Morris County Asst. Prosecutor Brian DiGiacomo and a Vet it was decided that Bobby Joe should be killed. That was on September 17th. The thing is the vet who supposedly saw Bobby Joe never did. Vet, David Howard, says that he never saw the dog but was shown pictures which after reviewing just showed a dog that was old and skinny. What you can do: Contact the New Jersey State SPCA. Let them know that you want a full investigation done on President Osorio and his actions that may or may not have been in the best interest of the animals he is sworn to protect. Jim Osorio is known to be someone who really loves animals and cares about them. I met him when he was going to New Orleans to rescue the Katrina animal victims. He was loved & respected in Morristown,NJ where he had been animal control & although I did not know him personally I had heard from many sources of all the great things he had done : a real animal advocate even off-duty.
