Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord

Scripture Thought for the Week: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12
It is once again time for a presidential election. As the candidates are on their separate campaign trails seeking to gain support of voters, the boxing gloves begin to emerge. Each candidate highlights broken promises of those seeking re-election or incumbents dispute what they believe to be a faulty or unreasonable platform set by a candidate desiring to replace them. Consequently, the voters listen to commercials of negativity as countless dollars are spent on campaigns when the national debt is astronomical. What is wrong with this picture? Wouldnt it be of great advantage if candidates would use their air time to promote programs and policies aiding this countrys citizens? What if negativity was replaced to promote the best interests for this country and speeches would conclude with May Gods will be done? Former presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, spoke unashamed about their faith in Almighty God. It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible. George Washington Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair; the rest is in the hands of God. George Washington Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on Gods side, for God is always right. Abraham Lincoln As I read Psalm 33, I understood with greater clarity how the author might interpret these verses. Although written in years past, God is still the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He loves us and wants the best for His children. However, we keep running amuck and doing what is right in our own eyes! When will we seek to change our actions and deeds putting others before ourselveseven in political campaigns? Listen to the words of Psalm 33, beginning in verse 13, From heaven the Lord looks down

and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earthhe who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. God is omnipotent (all
powerful), omnipresent (everywhere) and omniscient (all knowing). There is nothing that slips under His radar. We need to heed His words realizing, No king is saved by the

size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.

We cant be saved by the earthly power given to the individual who ranks in the highest office afforded to man in this great country. Neither can we be solely protected through his manmade policies, promises or the military he commands. Our only hope lies in our Creator God. We are as misguided by Satan as Eve when she was tempted to eat from a tree God had forbidden, if we think otherwise. But the good news is, hope is revealed as scripture continues, But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those

whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
God will deliver us and give us wisdom and knowledge to make good decisions when we enter those voting booths. We need to be faithfully praying that we will clearly see Gods truth in order to make our way through the maze of often misguided verbiage. Rest assured that God will supply us with courage, strength and wisdom during these upcoming months as we stay on our knees in prayer for our country.

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you. Amen! Psalm 33:20-22
