COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental elements of drafting and design. Students are introduced to different drawing aspects, techniques, design, and concepts that are involved in the design and drafting of buildings and structures. Such elements are an integral part of a growing society. This course will allow students to gain additional knowledge from the use of software thats geared towards enhancing students capabilities as it relates to drafting. The course will allow students to apply and utilize these elements through the exposure that will be gained from class projects and assignments that are similar in nature to actual drafted and designed structures.

COURSE OBJECTIVES At the end of this course students should:

1. Understand how various computer software are utilized in the drafting and design

industry, 2. Be able to relate to computer based drawings,

3. Be aware of the various stages involved in building drawing, 4. Be competent in handling drafting projects on a large scale,

5. Produce complete drawings using the AutoCAD software.

COURSE CONTENT AND OVERVIEW

2.1

UNIT ONE: Fundamentals of Construction Drafting and Design

Knowledge Outcomes

Identify some of the different computer software and technologies that are used in

the drafting and designing of structures.

Explain what the capabilities of the software used and how they can be utilized in

drafting and design. Relate to manual drawing Understand the concepts behind using the software versus manual drawing

Psychomotor Outcomes

Perform complex operations using of the listed computer software that are used in

the field of drafting and design. Manipulate software/program to gain desired quality.

Attitudinal Outcomes

Appreciate the importance of the computer and its software applications in the

drafting and design Industry.

UNIT TWO: Introduction to AutoCAD

Knowledge Outcomes Outline the main features of the AutoCAD software applications Differentiate between the different commands in the AutoCAD software.

Psychomotor Outcomes Utilize the main commands associated with the AutoCAD software. Format units and set limits in a new AutoCAD drawing. Produce a simple diagram using the AutoCAD software. Produce a simple floor plan using the AutoCAD software.

Identify building drawings and building components. Rationalize the differences between types of house plans. Outline the concepts of drawing house plans through the use of AutoCAD software various.

Produce multiple drawings through the use of AutoCAD

Create detailed drawing of building structures and building components. Produce well dimensioned and label working drawings. Utilize drawing templates and commands.
