Oriental Courier Service Bookshop b.v. Hotel Okura Shopping Arcade Ferdinand Bolstraat 333 1072 LH Amsterdam Tel: 020-6799238 Fax: 020-6766187 Info: courier service This is the best place to find original, non-translated manga in the Netherlands. OCS is located in the shopping arcade of the hotel Okura (a hotel that caters to Japanese tourists). You can order any manga in print at OCS. They do have some manga in stock (e.g. latest Ranma 1/2, Bastard, D.N.A.2, etc.) but that is limited to the later volumes in the series. For ordering a particular tankoubon you'll need the name of the artist, the publisher and the title of the manga (all in kanji) but they also accept an ISBN number (though it's helpful if you supply more information). When ordering manga I have found it *very* handy to bring a printout of the PostScript version of the manga guide maintained by Iain Sinclair. Then you can just point to the artist, title and publisher. Most orders arrive within a month (usually faster as they get two shipments a month). You can also subscribe to Japanese magazines such as Newtype at OCS. Then you have two options: you can pick up the latest issue yourself or you can have them send the issue by snailmail (which will add to the subscription price). Note: Newtype arrives two weeks *before* the U.S. shops get them! You can also subscribe when you live outside the Netherlands (I know of at least two Norwegian subscriptions). Most of the magazines you can subscribe to are also available for sale and OCS is a great place to browse through the available magazines. Apart from manga and magazines, OCS also sells Japanese novels and some merchandising (not much anime merchandising though). They have quite a lot of books on learning Japanese.
