As a way to increase reading with younger Title 1 students we would like to start an afterschool reading club for students in 2nd and 3rd grade. Students would use an E-Reader and E-Books to read books, write on their book blog, and create Wordle's for their books to display in the school. The Aluratek Libre Digital Book Reader would be purchased from Target. The advantage for students at this age using this technology would provide them technology to look up unfamiliar words, enlarge the text, and have their books read aloud if needed.

Proposal Information
Program Start Date 10/03/2012 Program End Date 03/06/2013 Proposal Detail:
Which best describes the primary focus of the program? EDUCATION-Reading-Extended Learning Time
Please provide an overview of the program. The media center has purchased some E-Books for students to use next year. THe after school reading program would allow students time to work with non-fiction and fiction text on E-Readers to learn content knowledge, but mostly for the love of reading. This club would allow students from a Title 1 school the ability to use E-Readers to enlarge text, have text read aloud to them, and to highlight and look up unfamiliar words. Books are very special and the use of E- Books can increase reading proficiency by allowing them to manipulate the functions of an E-Book.

If yes, list any recognition opportunities. e.g., newsletters, website, etc. Our website would list the Reading Club as one of the school's activities and provide information about funding from Target. A newspaper article would be written with a picture showing the students using the E-Readers and how this opportunity was provided by Target. Information about the program and Target's funding would be shown on our Media Blog.
If yes, list volunteer opportunities that would be available. Volunteers are always welcome at Woodbine Elementary School. For this program, volunteers could show students and teachers how to use the technology.
