Due to the advancements made by the human race, many animals are on their way to extinction , but it is our

job as humans to protect the animals of the world who are endangered and close to extinction due to our negligent ways. Animal what comes to your mind when you hear this word? Perhaps something furry, something feathery, something slimy, something with a beak or lots of sharp teeth, - right? Take a minute to stop and think of this; after all, animals arent the cuddly stuffed toys that you see in department stores. They are living, breathing creatures, given a life just as we humans have. They also have to eat, survive, and live their lives. But there is a huge difference between the way animals live and the way humans live. Animals have to struggle for survival; they have to fight for their lives. Animals are solely on their own from the minute they take their first breath to the minute they take their last one. They have to eat for survival, defend themselves with nothing except themselves, build their own homes, protect their babies. To them life is an extremely tough existence. Thats an animals life! The world today is becoming less aware of the pain and suffering being inflicted on animals. As a result, animals are becoming even more and more downtrodden in society. Humans have, and continue to, treat animals as if they are property, as if we can own and therefore control their lives and what happens to them. This is immoral, animals are here for themselves, animals have their own lives, and they think, have feelings, feel pain, require love... Animals have been seen as a lower species for decades. They have few or no rights and they are sometimes treated inhumanely. No rights are given to them, so when they are abused there are no consequences. Hit an animal, make them live in dirty environments, forgot to feed them, leave them in the hot temperatures with no water, or torture them and the consequences are minor compared to the cruelty forced on that animal. Animals should have certain rights so that abusers can have harsher consequences which in turn could help with future crimes, but doesnt mean that they cant be raised to feed our society or be used for other services. For centuries animals have been used by society to perform different duties. They are food for our families, they help the disabled, used for transportation, and other jobs. Yet if asked some people still believe that they are just animals and they were put on this earth to serve people, not be equals nor have rights. For years animal activists have been trying to get society to see animals more clearly for what they are, living breathing beings. Some people believe that animal rights activists care more about animals than they do about other people, which isnt entirely true. Some of the more extreme activists do but most activists have expanded their circle of compassion so that it includes both humans and non-humans. Most just believe that animals deserve to live humanely and with dignity, to be able to live without being abused and other cruelties visited upon them. The way some animals are treated can be incredibly brutal and despite the fact that they are not humans they are still living beings and should be treated with some amount of respect. Some people believe that the view that humans and animals are equal is a flawed assumption, as human beings possess special qualities that animals dont.
