February 10, 2012 To Whom It May Concern: Richard Hung has been in my sixth grade Math class for approximately twenty-two weeks. From the first day of school September 6th to December 16th he volunteered his time. From January to now he has been student teaching in my 3 Math periods. He has been part of three periods of Math with 55 children. These students range from Beginner English Language Learner to English only speakers. In addition to the different language levels, these classes range from Below Basic Proficiency in State Standardized tests to Advanced. Two classes are GATE clusters where Mr. Hung has used different skills and strategies to challenge them and promote success: Acceleration, projects using technology, going in-depth to challenge, and Data-based decision-making. Mr. Hung has had the responsibility of teaching all three Math groups. During this time he developed Math lesson plans aligned to State Standards, the schools expectations and my guidelines. He has integrated strategies to develop the usage of computers and the Promethean Board to deliver lessons and online programs to satisfy our schools LOGO (Learning-On-the-Go) program. Mr. Hung has developed and taught a variety of lessons from all of the different units. During this time he has planned and implemented the classwork, daily homework, weekly quizzes, unit tests, created video-lessons (Flipping the classroom) and updated our classroom Moodle site (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment). He has demonstrated his awareness of different learning styles and has adequately adjusted assignments to meet the varied needs of students. His units were thoroughly prepared and implemented. He has been successful at identifying the areas of improvement and was very open to modify and/or change lessons to meet the immediate needs of children with the current topic. When hes not teaching whole group, he is working with struggling students or small groups to target a specific learning goal. In addition to working with the children, Mr. Hung has been actively participating in weekly Professional Development as part of the whole staff, grade level and departmental meetings, and after-school tutoring. Mr. Hung possesses a positive personality with a great sense of responsibility. He has a great rapport with the students. He is professionally dressed, well articulate, and always ready to help others (students and teachers). In department meetings and grade level meetings our colleagues have accepted him as part of a team because of the positive working relationship he has established. I am very confident that Mr. Hung will be an asset to any staff that he works with. He is confident and yet willing and ready to learn from others. Mr. Hung is a great team member with initiative and is always supporting myself and other teachers for the better of our kids. I believe that he will continue to grow and become even more effective as a teacher with further opportunities.
