The Complainant states that the following facts establish probable cause:
Your complainant has reviewed police reports relating to the above-named defendant and the
allegations contained herein. Based upon that information, complainant believes the following
to be true and correct:
On March 22, 2012 at approximately 10:06 a.m. Pine County Child Protection received a
report of possible child abuse. Specifically, on March 22.2012 at 2:10a.m. S.A.O., DOB
1-28-2012, was brought into the emergency room by her parents, Paige Demarre and William
Robert Olsen, DOB 5-18-91, hereinafter referred to as the defendant. Pine County Child
Protection received a report from the treating facility stating "patient brought into emergency
room on 3-22-2012 at 2:10. Prior to arrival, parents were changing child's diaper and noticed
she was not moving left ann, also stated her appetite hadn't been well on 3-12-12. In the er

fuller than left. Parents stated child appears to bruise easily. Parents deny child falling at aIL"
Doctor Dewey at the Gateway Clinic examined the child and determined that the child had a
fractured left humorous and a fractured right femur. The child was transported to the
University of Minnesota Hospital where physicians performed emergency surgery on the
child's leg stating that there could be permanent disfigurement. Doctors in examining the child
determined that the child had multiple fractures to various parts of her body that were in
various stages of healing. The Injuries appeared to be approximately one month old, some
injuries appeared to be a week to two weeks old and the recent injuries as well. Doctors
con'firmed up to 21 fractures and 5 likely fractures. Specifically fractures were discovered in:
7 ribs, left clavicle, left humerus, left femur, left tibia, left metatarsal, right tibia and fibu1a as
well as the skull.
8gt. Nelson spoke to the defendant who agreed to provide a voluntary statement. The
defendant stated that the injury occurred sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. but stated
that he had no idea how she had been injured. The defendant told Sg1. Nelson that he has
never seen the child's mother get violent with the infant nor has he ever been violent with the
infant. The defendant confirmed that the child is unable to stand or crawl on her own, nor is
she able to roll from her stomach to her back or from her back to her stomach. The defendant
then told Sgt. Nelson that it has been rough getting sleep and that he has not had much sleep.
The defendant stated that he did not hurt the child and that he did not know how she had been
injured. The defendant began crying at one point and told 8g1. Nelson that he squeezed his
daughter's arm. Sgt. Nelson asked for details and the defendant said that the child had been
been crying and he did not know what to do. The defendant stated that was approximately 2

a.m. and the child was lying in the crib at which point he grabbed her arm. The defendant
then described grabbing the child's left upper arm with his right hand. 8gt. Nelson asked the
defendant' if he picked up the child and the defendant stated that he "just squeezed too much."
The defendant stated that the child's mother was sleeping when this happened. 8gt. Nelson
asked about the injuries to the child's right leg and the defendant denied doing more than
squeezing her arm. The defendant stated that he did not even notice her leg was hurt until
they were at the Gateway Clinic.
The defendant was then silent for several minutes and stated that he wanted to say something
but that something was holding him back. The defendant then told 8gt. Nelson that he took
both hands and squeezed the child's leg. 8gt. Nelson asked if this was before or after he
grabbed the child's arm and the defendant stated it was before grabbing her arm, 8gt. Nelson
asked if the arm and leg incident happened at the same time or if there was time in between
and the defendant stated that it was at the same time. The defendant stated that he picked
the child up by her leg. 8gt. Nelson asked if he twisted or squeezed and the defendant stated
that he just picked up the child and she started screaming louder. The defendant stated that
he then squeezed her arm. The defendant stated that he then grabbed her by the thigh area
and admitted to picking the child up all the way off of the mattress but not out of the crib. The
defendant stated that he was so tired and irritated that he did not know if he did any damage.
The defendant stated that he only had a couple hours of sleep in the last day and that he was
trying to get the child to be quiet so he could get some sleep.
8gt. Nelson asked the defendant if anything else like this had happened and the defendant
admitted that he squeezes the child sometimes but not as hard as he had done that morning.
The defendant described the squeezing as not hard enough to break bones or anything and
proceeded to show 8g1. Nelson how he would hold her with his left arm and squeeze her left
hand with his right. The defendant admitted that this had happened on two prior occasions
and stated that it was within the last week. The defendant admitted that things had been
getting worse in the last week with work and no sleep. The defendant stated that the child has
never been dropped or knocked off the bed.
