Community Organizing and NGO work in the Slums of Nicargua April 2nd With Maria Elena Bonilla & Lillian Hall, 7:00 9:00 PM @ Cafe Bohemia, 937 Central Ave Saint Petersburg, FL 33705 Learn about the historical ties between Nicaragua and the US and what it takes to be an effective community organizer in a slum on the edge of the Managua Municipal Dump. Hear about the work of a US NGO (non-governmental organization) partnering with Nicaraguan social innovators. Maria Elena Bonilla and Lillian Hall, two women from strikingly different backgrounds, have worked with the poor of Nicaragua since the 1980s contra war. Where Maria Elena was born to an impoverished family in the Nicaraguan port city of Corinto, Lillian was raised in Tuscon, Arizona, in a middle-class family. But during the revolutionary times of the 1980s, both were drawn to improve the circumstances of people in the second poorest nation in the western hemisphere. All bikes, all genders, all dispositions welcome! This is a ride at your own pace community ride. Shuffleboard April 6th, 17th, 20th, and 27th 7:00-11:00 PM @ The St. Pete Shuffleboard Club, 559 Mirror Lake Drive, N., St. Petersburg, FL - Enjoy St. Pete history while playing a free game of shuffleboard at the worlds largest shuffleboard courts. Players slide colored discs across the court to gain points, so long as their opponents dont knock them off! For 2 or 4 players, approx. hour / game. Just look for a club volunteer to give you a quick lesson. Printmaking Class April 7th With Mia, 4:30 PM @ The Venture Compound, 2621 Fairfield Ave. S., Saint Petersburg, FL 33712 - Come out for a Free Skool Printmaking Class taught by Mia Culbertson and Chris Watkins! We will be doing small linoleum block prints, 3x4". Each participant will be able to create an edition of 5 prints (linoleum, paper, ink, and tools will be provided). This class will be for all skill levels, and the completed prints will be displayed afterward during the show at the Venture Compound.
