EDTC6025: Analysis and Evaluation of Instructional Design Reflection

State the competency or standard that is appropriate for your degree and licensure area. This could be standards for 077 licensure or ISTE Advanced Standards for Technology Facilitators. When appropriate you may use standards from the Association for Educational Communication and Technology (AECT). Choose one or two standards that most representative of your artifact. The reflection should include discussion for each of the standards youve identified for the artifact. TF-II.A. Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technologyenhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners TF-V.C Apply technology to increase productivity. Describe requirements for your artifact. What was assigned and how did you complete the project. Only 100 to 150 words are needed for this section. Include theoretical base for what you did in the project. Include references to textbook authors, readings, and online resources discussed in your course. EDTC6025-Analysis and Evaluation of Instructional Design was taught during the second summer session of 2011 by Dr. Kenneth Luterbach. The course focused on the importance of instructional analysis, strategies, and formative evaluation methods as well as experiences in instructional development and evaluation techniques. The final project for this course was to create an instructional design that was to actually be taught. Because this course was taken during the summer, I did not have students to teach. Therefore, I taught a Mary Kay skin care class to a group of ladies. This group ranged in age from 20-84. The focus of my project was to teach my first complete instructional design project and evaluate it. Our text, The Systematic Design of Instruction by W. Dick, L. Carey & J. Carey introduced the idea of the Dick, Carey, and Carey design model. Dick, Carey, and Carey focused on the interdependence of the design process. It is a fluid process in which one must have the step prior in order to continue. The analysis must be complete before the design of the lesson can begin. I learned that it is important to always evaluate the process for effectiveness. If the design is ineffective, the technologist must go back to the analysis to begin again. Explain how your artifact is a good example of the objective, competency, or standard. Defend your evidence as if you were a lawyer defending the validity of evidence submitted for the trial. Include references to theory in Instructional Design and Technology. TF-II.A (ISTE Standards) states that Educational technologists design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners. I believe I met this standard in my project because the Mary Kay class had women ranging from ages 20 to age 84. I had very diverse skin care needs within that age range. I was able to design a powerpoint presentation that was appropriate for the needs of my learners. This powerpoint presentation can be used time and time again in future Mary Kay skin care classes. Because TF-V.C (ISTE Standards) states that Educational technologists apply technology to increase productivity, I used the features of powerpoint to

allow for various learning styles. The powerpoint served as a supplement to the class during both the lecture portion and during the hands-on portion. The viewing of the powerpoint during the class assisted my participants with visual models of the information given. In the end of the skin care class, this increased my productivity because the participants would refer back to a certain slide and tell me they wanted that particular product. Thus, the increase in productivity was a monetary increase more money made in less time because each learning style was met. Discuss how you might change the content, strategy, or design of the artifact. If you see no need for change, elaborate on the artifact is a good exemplar for the competency or standard. Upon reflection of my project for EDTC6025, I would have much rather taught a class in the classroom rather than a Mary Kay skin care class. I am thankful for the opportunity to think as a technologist in the corporate venue, as instructional technologists are not just educational technologists. I was able to think more about the bottom dollar and analyze whether this presentation would make my company more money or if it would impede productivity. I do feel that I did a good job considering this was my first, and only, example of corporate instructional technologist. I would prefer to stay within the educational field, however. With that said I would not change what I did strategically or within the design using this content. However, I would have rather had a very different content area. Discuss how the artifact is representative of future career goals and plans. My future goals and plans are not well represented in this project. I do not plan to use instructional technology in the corporate world. This instructional design project helped to confirm that I am definitely better suited for the educational field of instructional technology. I learned that I can apply instructional design to anything that needs to be taught, even a skin care class to adults. I improved my productivity by making a decent amount of money that day, without taking a lot of time to make that money. I plan to continue my Mary Kay career, selling the skin care and make up products, but not in a way that would ever be considered my full-time job. The experience has made me a more well-rounded instructional technologist however by making me see the bottom line. References Dick, W., Carey, L., & Carey, J. (2005).
