FOLLOWING THEIR FOOTSTEPS: The Knox Trail Honor
Walk During the winter of 17751776, Colonel Henry Knox left
Boston, marched to New Yorks Fort Ticonderoga, andwith a
team of men and oxenhauled more than 50 tons of cannons and
other arms back to Bostons Dorchester Heights. The threat of
these cannons firing on British ships in Boston Harbor led to the
British evacuation of Boston, a major victory for the fledging
Continental Army. In 1926, New York and Massachusetts began
installing commemorative markers that traced the so-called Knox
Trail at locations in the two states. In April of 2012, staff members
of Patriots of the American Revolution Magazine will walk the
Knox Trail. The mission: to honor Henry Knox and his noble
train of artillery, to raise awareness of and promote the Knox
Trail as a unique American historical route, and to help the American
Revolution Association raise needed money for history-based
museums and parks with connections to Henry Knox and the
Knox Trail. Starting from Fort Ticonderoga on Friday, April
6, 2012, Patriots of the American Revolution Managing Editor
Benjamin Smith and Copyeditor Alex Culpepper will march south
along Lake George and the Hudson River to Kinderhook, New
York, where they will veer east into Massachusetts, aiming to
reach Dorchester Heights in Boston National Historical Park on
Wednesday, April 18. Along the way they will take photographs
of the various markers along the Knox Trail and document their
trip for in-depth articles about the Trail that will run in future
issues of Patriots of the American Revolution magazine. Donations
received by corporations and private individuals will be collected
by the American Revolution Association and distributed directly
and equally to the following four museums and parks: Fort

CHAMBER MUSIC AT THE COURTHOUSE. Mozart,
Brahms, Beethoven and more will return to the Salem Courthouse
Community Center this spring. Three concerts will be offered in
the courtroom with its outstanding acoustics. Sundays, April
15, May 13 and June 17 at 3 pm. Concert pianist and conductor,
Daniel Shulman, coordinated the musicians and the programs which
will include: Sonatas by Beethoven, Mozart and Schumann; Trios
by Faure and Haydn; an Elegy by Faure and more. Tickets $20 a

12TH ANNUAL BALLOON FESTIVAL to Launch, June 1-3 in
and around the beautiful historic village of Cambridge, NY. Four
launches of 10 hot air balloons (Friday & Saturday evening and
Saturday & Sunday morning). All launches take place at the
Cambridge Central School on Route 22 (wind and weather
permitting). Evening launches typically occur around 7 p.m.;
morning launches at 5:30 a.m. Fireworks display on Friday
evening at the Cambridge Guest Home Park on South Union
Street. On Saturday, the Chamber organizes a Taste of
Cambridge at the same location to showcase local food
producers and restaurants. The Taste is followed by the annual
Moon Glow, a spectacular night time display of tethered hot air
balloons that are lit from inside in time to music. At the school
location there are rides, carnival games, food vendors, and sporting
events. In the Village, activities such as craft fairs, farmers markets,
museum tours, concerts, and gallery events occur. Information
will be posted on the Chamber website at
www.cambridgenychamber.com Festival themed merchandise will
be available for sale beginning in late May. These items support
the festival and make it possible for most activities to occur free
of charge. Sponsors are also crucial to the success of the balloon
festival. Opportunities range from sponsorship of an entire
balloon ($1000) to event sponsorships ($500-$250). Gold and
silver sponsorships are available for $100 and $50, respectively.

SALEM AREA WOMANS CLUB met at the Mackenzie Chapel
of the first United Presbyterian Church in Salem. The meeting
opened with a tea hosted by chairperson Pat Gilchrist, with help
from Ros Bates, Virginia ONeil, Kathie Roby and Norma Skellie.
Co-President Irene Baldwin led the business meeting. Lois Sheaff
gave an update of the plans for the upcoming Womens Health
Day. There was discussion of donations given anually by the
Womans Club. The Adirondack District Meeting of Womens
Clubs will be held later in the month and information was given
concerning the upcoming New York State Convention.
The Womans Club welcomed Renee Bouplon who presented
this months program. She is the Associate Director of the
Agriculture Stewardship Association which actively promotes
public awareness of farmland conservation and encourages policies
which support and enhance agriculture. She highlighted the
necessity for the ASAs mission of community support in
protecting valuable agricultural and forest lands. Her power point
presentation also illustrated several of the farms and farm families
who are now protected by the conservation easements created
with the help of the ASA. The Health Day committee met at the
conclusion of the meeting to firm up plans for the April 21st
event. The regular April meeting of the Womans Club will feature
historian Ken Gottry. All are welcome to attend.

KEN GOTTRY WILL SPEAK AT THE SALEM AREA
WOMANS CLUB MEETING at the Mackenzie Chapel of the
First United Presbyterian Church in Salem on Wednesday, April
11th at 1 PM with a tea hosted by chairperson Linda Randles,
with help from Diane DeConno, Dee Romack, Marianne Vernon
and Anne Torrens. The final plans for the upcoming 18th Annual
Womens Health Day will be made. Local historian and author
Ken Gottry will be the presenter. Kens ancestors, the Van Ness,
Woodworth, and Hitchcock families, have been associated with
the Cambridge area since its founding. His father was historian for
the village, town, and church, leaving a large collection to the
village archives and public library. Much of the content in Gottrys
book Around Cambridge, White Creek, and Jackson comes from
material his father amassed in the mid-1900s. Ken Gottry also
created a chronology of Cambridges past from 1761 to 1974
which is available on his website. He has produced podcasts of
Cambridge Then and Now. All are welcome.

United Methodist Church at 16 State Street in Valley Falls will
host a roast beef dinner on Wednesday, April 25. Sittings are at 5

PERFORMERS WANTED- The 12th Annual Cambridge Valley
Balloon Festival, set for June 1-3, 2012, will include a number of
opportunities for local performers to be seen and heard. Short
performances throughout the day on Saturday, June 2. There are
also a limited number of spots available on Friday evening, June
1. Performers will be paid for their participation. All performers
are welcome. Submit the name of your group, type of performance,
contact information, and fee per hour IN WRITING to: CVCC,

BASKET PARTY- Greenwich Elks Auxiliary will be holding their
annual Basket Party on April 22nd ad 1 PM at the Greenwich
Lodge. This fundraiser awards five scholarships to a student from
Greenwich, Argyle, Cambridge, Schuylerville and Salem. $5
admission includes light lunch.
CAMBRIDGE CONNECTS, in conjunction with the Village of
Cambridge presents the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Egg Color-
ing Party on March 31st from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Cambridge
Guest Home. Hop on in for our Egg Hunts! Preschool and younger
-Egg Hunt (on the front lawn-1:30pm), Kindergarten & 1st grade -
Egg Hunt (front lawn-2:00pm) and 2nd grade & up - Egg Hunt
(sledding hill- 2:00pm). Decorate and color eggs inside from 1:00pm-

EASTER EGG HUNT Children from 2- 10 years old are invited
to join the free Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7 at 2 p.m. at
the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church at 3153 County
Route 30. The egg hunt will be held rain or shine. The egg hunt is
free and children will be divided into two age groups with older
children assisting younger children. Bring your own basket for

$1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE AWARDED. The
Schaghticoke Fair announced up to ten $1,000.00 scholarships

red SAVE ( Salem Area Van Endeavor ) 10-passenger van continues

management of the Courthouse Community Center, the van picks
the riders up at home and transports them to the Granville Price
Chopper on Thursday. There is no charge for this service which
is open to anyone in need of transportation. Anyone in need of a
