Ethene may be converted to ethyl ethanoate by a series of reactions. Outline the steps used to effect the above conversion in the laboratory. (Diagrams are NOT required.) Your answer should include (i) (ii) the functional groups present in EACH of the organic compounds involved the reagents and reaction conditions necessary. 10 marks

State the type of reaction and the products formed when sodium hydroxide reacts with ethyl ethanoate 2 marks

When sodium hydroxide solution is rubbed between the fingers, it feels soapy. Explain this observation 2 marks
d)
An oil spill occurs near to a sea-side tourist resort. The oil can be rapidly removed by applying a detergent which causes the oil to clump together and sink. Other methods are available which completely remove the oil but they are more expensive to apply. Suggest THREE factors you would consider in selecting a method for removing the oil. Give reasons for your answer. 6 marks
