Alex Hammer-Barulich
Alex Hammer-Barulich is a third-year physical geography and
political science double major at UC Santa Barbara. He serves
as Undersecretary General of Conference for UCSB-MUN.
Justin Galle
Justin Galle is a third-year political science major at UC Santa
Barbara and Secretary General of UCSB Model United Nations.
Kate Dewes
Kate Dewes has directed the South Island Regional Office of the
Aotearoa/New Zealand Peace Foundation from her home in
Christchurch for 25 years, and serves with her husband as Co-
Director of the Disarnmament & Security Center. In 2007 she
was appointed to the UN Secretary Generals Advisory Board on
Disarmament Matters, and was the New Zealand government
expert on the United Nations Study on Disarmament and Non-
Proliferation Education from 2000-2002
Robert Green
Commander Green served for 20 years in the British Royal
Navy. As a bombardier-navigator, he flew in nuclear strike
aircraft and anti-submarine helicopters. Since leaving the
British Royal Navy in 1982, he has worked tirelessly for the
abolition of nuclear weapons. His book, Security Without Nuclear
Deterrence, exposes the contradictions and fallacies of nuclear
deterrence, and concludes that nuclear weapons undermine
rather than enhance security. Positioning nuclear disarmament
as a security-building process, Green offers alternative routes
to co-operative security without nuclear weapons, based on more
humane, lawful and safer strategies to deter aggression.

OPENI NG CEREMONY LOGI STI CS
Position papers
Position papers are due at the start of committee on Saturday,
February 19th. Your chair will ask for position papers before
beginning roll call.
Dress code
Western business attire is required during committee and
openning/closing ceremony. Delegates are encouraged to wear
blue and gold colored clothing during the delegate social.
Social
The delegate social will be held Saturday evening at the
Multipurpose Room, inside the Student Resource Building. The
theme of the dance is Blue and Gold, (UC Santa Barbara
school colors). There will be a DJ and refreshments. This is a
great opportunity to cement friendships developed over the
first day of committee and get to know your chair and fellow
delegates in a less formal environment. Our first priority is to
ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience at the
social. Please remember consumption or possession of alcohol
in any UCSB building is prohibited, and that anyone found in
possession of alcohol will be immediately asked to leave and
become ineligable for delegate awards.
Snack bar/conference t-shirts
A variety of snacks and beverages are available at the Delegate
Services Table at the entrance of the SRB throughout the
conference weekend. Conference t-shirts, featuring the UCSB-
MUN logo, will also be available for $15.
Awards policy
Unlike many high school conferences, GauchoMUN does not
use a point system for deciding delegate awards, but rather a
holistic evaluation of delegates performace in and out of
formal session. While being an active committee participant is
important, Chairs primarialy focus on how accurately delegates
portray their assigned country, leadership during unmoderated
caucus, understanding of rules and procedure, and the overall
quality (not quantity) of speeches during committee.
