READING 1 A reading from the second book of Maccabees Judas, the ruler of Israel, the took up a collection among

all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from his sin. The Word of the Lord. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Response: OUT OF THE DEPTHS,I CRY TO YOU, LORD 1. Our the depths, I call to you, Lord; Lord, hear my cry! May your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. Res.. 2. If you, Lord, mark our sins, Lord, who can stand? But with you is forgiveness and so you are revered. Res.. 3. I wait with longing for the Lord, My soul waits for his word. My soul looks for the Lord, more than watchman at daybreak. Res.. 4. Let Israel look for the Lord, For with the Lord is kindness, With him is full of redemption, From all their sins. Res..

READING 2 A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but handed him over for us all, how will not also give us everything else along With him? Who will bring a charge against Gods chosen ones? It is God who acquits us. Who Will condemn? It is Christ Jesus who dies, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, Who indeed intercedes for us. What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am Convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor horror and disgrace. But the wise shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament, and those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever. The word of the Lord. ALL: ALLELUIA, ALLELUIA IF WE DIE WITH CHRIST WE SHALL LIVE WITH HIM, AND IF WE ARE FAITHFUL TO THE END, WE SHALL REIGN WITH HIM. ALLELUIA
