READING 1 A reading from the second book of Maccabees Judas, the ruler of Israel, the took up a collection among

all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view; for he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. READING 2 A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but handed him over for us all, how will not also give us everything else along With him? Who will bring a charge against Gods chosen ones? It is God who acquits us. Who Will condemn? It is Christ Jesus who dies, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, Who indeed intercedes for us. What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am Convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor horror and disgrace. GENERAL INTERCESSION: Minister: We believe that Jesus died and rose again; and so it will be for those who died in him. God will bring them into company with him. With confidence, then, we offer our prayers. LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER 1. That our brother___ may receive the reward promised to those who keep your word, we pray to the Lord. 2. That the power of the resurrection may transform mortality into unending life, we pray to the Lord. 3. That name may share with saints the joy, light, and peace of your presence in glory, we pray to the Lord. 4. That we who mourn may know the consolation of your love, we pray to the Lord. 5. There is sadness in parting, but we take control in the hope that one day we shall see (name) again and enjoy his/her friendship. Although this congregation will disperse in sorrow, the mercy of god will gather us together again in the joy of his kingdom. Therefore let us console one another in the faith of Jesus Christ. PLS.
