Undergraduate Course: Wireless Communications (417) Requirements of Lab report

1. Students of the class are divided into groups, each group has about 2 students. 2. Each group should prepare a report including, but not limited to:
2.1. Specific tasks of each group member. 2.2. Detailed explanations/formulations of the considered digital modulations and demodulations over wireline/wireless channels. It is noted that the digital transmission system settings were discussed in our previous class and described in the provided Mfile: Main_program.m. 2.3. Provide numerical results of BER performance under the following scenarios: Considered MQAM-modulations are: BPSK, QPSK (4-QAM), 16-QAM, 64-QAM (Students should write Matlab codes of 16/64-QAM demodulations over wireline/wireless channels) 2.3.2. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) ranges could be [0dB 10dB] for AWGN channels and [0dB 30dB] for wireless channels (in the presence of fading gains). Students should determine a suitable range of SNRs under a specific MQAM modulation, depending on their PC resourse and simulation time. 2.4. The existing (provided) Matlab simulation platform (Main_program.m) only considers a special case of a wireless channel where the number of resovable paths equal to one (L =1). Based on the existing Matlab codes, students should write Matlab codes for MQAM demodulations over a general case of wireless channels where we have more than one resovable path (L>1). In particular, please refer to equation (13) in lecture notes of chapter 2 (Chapter 2 Wireless channel modeling.pdf) for the detailed formulation of multipath fading channel modeling. In this case, the index l of the summation in (13) varies from 0 to L-1 where a practical value of L can be 5 (in WiFi channels) or 15 (in WiMAX channels). 2.5. Provide discussions/comparisons related to the numerical results of BER performance under different transmission system settings and scenarios. Note: We may have more detailed discussions on generating multipath fading gains in the general case (L>1) in Tuesdays class (Dec. 7).

2.3.1.

3. Report submission deadline: December 20, 2010 4. Two groups would be selected to make a presentation (of about 15 minutes) of their
lab reports in class room. Presentation date is: December 21, 2010.

5. Reference:
