MINI PROJECT 4 CAM AND FOLLOWER MECHANISM

Introduction to cam:A cam and follower system is system/mechanism that uses a cam and follower to create a specific motion. The cam is in most cases merely a flat piece of metal that has had an unusual shape or profile machined onto it. This cam is attached to a shaft which enables it to be turned by applying a turning action to the shaft. As the cam rotates it is the profile or shape of the cam that causes the follower to move in a particular way. The movement of the follower is then transmitted to another mechanism or another part of the mechanism. OR In short We can say that cam change the rotation motion in time variable linear motion.

Types of cam :Cam can be divided with respect to the 1 shape of the cam 2 follower motion 3 location of line of movement

Here we are going to taking example of the oscillating follower which come under the category of types of motion.

This motion can be used as the viper mechanism in car and automobiles. Since from the fig. it is shown the follower moves in a to and fro motion and hence if we extend the arm in direction opposite of the follower, then this motion can be use for viper mechanism.

The dimension for which cam is made:Arm length = 5cm Angle rotate by arm =60 deg. Base radius =4 cm Roller radius = 1cm.
