GA-1121 - 64 bit Vista Drivers Software Review Notes

Blank Settings Fields - PCL (64 bit Windows Vista Only)

PCL Initially, some setting fields within the PCL driver's UI are blank. The default settings are valid (and function properly) but do not appear until the [Default] button is selected. These blank fields reappear each time the PCL driver is used with a new document.

Operators can select the PCL "Match Source" booklet function but booklets will not print unless the [Default] button is selected first. PS All fields are complete.

Booklets (64 bit and 32 bit Windows Vista)

PCL "Match Source" booklets only If "Double Source" booklet is selected, a "Match Source" booklet will be printed. PS "Standard Booklet" is available for MS Word documents. "Standard Booklet" is not available for PDFs. The operator can select "Standard Booklet" using the GA-1121 PS driver, however, only the first page prints. The "Right Binding", "Perfect", and "Speed Print" booklet settings are also non-functional within the PS driver. The results are similar to a "Postscript Passthrough" error. If the operator changes the postscript settings, the "Standard Booklet" setting is disabled. PCL Booklets Match Source Adobe PDFs MS Word OK OK Double Source NG NG LT on LT NG OK LT on LD NG OK PS

"Centering Adjustments" (64 bit and 32 bit Windows Vista)

PS "XY" is the only valid "Centering Adjustment" setting when making booklets. "Standard Booklet" will be deactivated if "Top X", "Bottom X", "Left Y", or "Right Y" is selected. PCL N/A - This setting isn't available with the PCL driver.

Job Monitor (64 bit Windows Vista and 64 bit Windows XP)
GA-1121 Vista v2.1 Job Monitor is not available on 64 bit Windows Vista or 64 bit Windows XP systems. Job Monitor is a 32 bit application for Windows Vista x86 and Windows XP x86 computers only.

Layout (64 bit and 32 bit Windows Vista)

PCL If the printing orientation is changed from "Portrait" to "Landscape" with the "Layout" set to anything other than "1-Up", the "Top-Top" and "Top-Bottom" settings operate are reversed when using duplex printing. PS The "Layout" attribute resets to "1-Up" each time the operator opens the printer "Properties" screen. The operator must select "2-Up", "4-Up", etc each time "Properties" is accessed.

Media Types (64 bit and 32 bit Windows Vista)

PS When the PS driver's "Update Fiery Driver When Opened" setting is enabled, media types (other than "Plain Paper") may not be available. Turn off "Update Fiery Driver When Opened" when using these media types. PCL This problem does not occur with this driver.

Shared Printers (64 bit and 32 bit Windows Vista)

When using a shared printer in combination with a 64-bit server and a 32-bit client (or vice versa), install the driver on the client PC directly from the CD-ROM. When using a shared printer with a Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows XP 64-bit client PC, watermarks cannot be used with the PCL and PS drivers.

Watermarks
PS MS Word Documents: Watermarks are NOT available on MS Word documents within 64 bit Vista. Watermarks are available on MS Word documents within 32 bit Vista. First Page Only: Watermarks are NOT available if the operator selects "First Page Only" PCL PCL XL Error: Watermarks are NOT available with the 64 bit Vista and 64 bit XP PCL drivers. The operator is permitted to select the "Watermark" function but receives a "PCL XL error" when the document prints. Watermarks work properly with the 32 bit Vista and XP PCL drivers.

Windows Certification
The GA-1121 64 bit Vista drivers are Windows certified for 64 bit Windows Vista, 64 bit Windows 2003 Server, and 64 bit Windows XP. However, the drivers are not certified for 32 bit Windows Vista or 32 bit Windows XP. The operator is asked to select "Install this software anyway" or "Continue Anyway" to the Windows Certification prompts during the installation of these drivers. The 32 bit Windows 2000/XP drivers are the recommended option for the 32 bit versions of Windows XP and Windows 2000.
