To have an opportunity to develop a real database system To get familiarize with the database development lifecycle To better understand the database concepts and database systems To collaboratively work in a team.

2.0

Introduction: Suppose you own a company which is selling products or provide services. With the expansion of your business, you need to create a website to sell your product or your service online. Therefore, you need to develop a database system to support your business demand. In your design, you should consider the following:

The database stores all products or service you ever have The database stores the information of all employees in your company The database stores the information of product or service providers The database stores the information of customers/client The database stores the information of all orders The database stores whatever other information you think is necessary for managing your online product/service and employees

Each group is required to develop a feasible database system.

2.0

Project Tasks: 1. You need to analyze your company business. This should include: a. Describe your business detail. b. Provide the mission statement and mission objectives of your database project. c. Describe scope and boundaries of database system. d. Identify major user views. You may list the user views based on a particular job role or/and application area (departments).

List resources such as people you may consult, the existing tables/forms and documentation you may use to gather information, and so on. i. Identify techniques that can be used to collect requirements (include examples if any) ii. You may include: iii. iv. Data to be used Transactions to be performed on the data

Identify entities, relationship and attributes in your system Who will use the database and what information will display for the different users?

Provide examples of query transactions that should be supported by the database.

Design the database for your companys business. This should include: a. The entity relationship diagram. b. The normalization procedure.

Implement the database using SQL Server, MySql, MS ACCESS, etc. This will include: a. The database file which include the data dictionary b. A figure shows the relationship among the table represented in the database - Show how you create the database components (tables, views, relationship and so on) c. Provide minimum of 10 records in each tables d. Based on item i (d) above, provide adequate samples of query transaction such as insert, delete and update information from the database.

Present your database system in class. This will include: a. Oral presentation in the class to introduce your business, your consideration about the database, your design, implementation, and etc

College of Information Technology CISB 214: Database System Project: 15 Marks b. Produce a report. Turn in a whole set of documentation for your database; include all analysis design and tasks in item 1-3, include images, handouts, and so on.

Important Deadlines: Oral Presentation is on Week 13 (23/04/12 - 29/04/12) & 14 (30/04/12 - 06/05/12). Report must be submitted 2 days after the presentation.

Important Notes: Students whose names are not listed in the project list will be assumed of not committing to project assignment and will be penalized accordingly.
