THANK YOU, GOD, FOR YOUR FORGIVENESS!

Lets think for a moment when God realized hat David, a man in whom He had placed His trust, had failed and disobeyed Him. The prophet Samuel called David a man after own Gods heart, and according to that description, David should have been faithful and obedient to everything God asked of Him. But he wasnt. He was human. And he fell into sin. Davids spiritual life began at a young age: He started worshipping God and even learned to dance for the Lord. He developed his fighting skills. But he always depended on Gods help and protection. David remained faithful to the Lord. The Lord honored him by choosing him to be king o Israel. He experienced Gods hand leading him as He established the kingdom and strengthened it in all aspects. Davids downfall: He began to lean less and less on the Lord and put his trust in his mighty army. He began to be lax. Kings were supposed to be with their army during war. But David stayed in his palace. Sin crept in. Many people today believe they can sin then continue living as though nothing had happened. But the Bible teaches that one sin leads to another. Davids sin of 1. Adultery (with Batsheba) led him to the sin of 2. Hypocrisy when he tried to act like a friend to Uriah (Batshebas husband). His sin of hypocrisy led him to the sin of 3. Murder when he ordered Uriah to be killed. CONSEQUENCES OF SIN: 1. Sin affects finances 2 Samuel 12:8 The consequences of this sin are, among others, unprotected children and destroyed career- which lead to financial devastation. The Lord could not give David everything He had prepared for him because of his sin. Sin prevented the blessings of God being poured out in Davids life. 2. Sin opens the door to a spirit of violence 2 Samuel 10:10a After David had Uriah killed, he saw violence increase in his own house. His son, Absalom, killed his half brother, Ammon, because Ammon sexually abused his sister, Tamar. Years later, Absalom also rebelled against David and tried to overthrow him so that he could be king of Israel.

3. Sin gives rise to public shame 2 Samuel 12:11 David sinned with only one woman. Absalom, his son, rebelled against him and went into Davids house and lay with ten of his fathers concubines right on the same terrace where David sinned with Batsheba. David did it in secret but Absalom did it in the middle of the day before the seeing of all Israel. 4. Sin opens the door to the curse 2 Samuel 12:11a David was aware that his sin brought a curse upon his house. A one-time act of a lustful king brought a curse upon his life and almost brought about the downfall of his kingdom. 5. Sin brings a spirit of death to a family 2 Samuel 12:13-14 In spite of Davids repentance, the consequences were inevitable. Although God did not take David out of His plan, the child who was born as a result of Davids sinful relationship with Batsheba did not live. God will destroy (will not allow to prosper) everything that resulted from sin. Seeing the consequences of his sin led David to repent. When he said Then I acknowledged my sin to You, his confession was not superficial or mechanical; nor does he try to justify his sin. Davids repentance was genuine because after he had confessed his sin, he never committed the same sin anymore. WHAT REPENTANCE IS NOT: 1. You do not repent just because you are caught in your sin. 2. Repentance is not repentance when there is still justification.
