MAKING THE CUT

A Year in Review: 2011
Accomplishments and Democrat Roadblocks: A Review of GOP Freeholders Wallace and Nestores First Year in Office
Republicans can have a positive impact on government in just a short amount of time. Take County GOP Freeholders Larry Wallace and Vince Nestore as a perfect example. Larry and Vince were elected to the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders in November 2010 and they were sworn in on January 1, 2011. Within their first week of office, the duo was fighting to end full time health benefits for part time elected and appointed officials. This particular perk for the chosen few had a $500,000 a year price tag. Democrats wanted to wait until 2012 to eliminate the health benefits. Wallace and Nestore fought to get rid of them as of March 2011 realizing a more immediate savings to county taxpayers and ending a practice that should not have existed in the first place. Democrat Director Rob Damminger threw up a smoke screen that cutting such benefits would put some employees at risk. Damminger and the Democrats later discovered" they were wrong and moved the termination date up to February 2011. As a result of Larry and Vinces determination and drive to do whats right, taxpayers saved approximately $415,000 in just one instance. This wasn't all the Republicans would accomplish. Wallace and Nestore next turned their sights towards overbilling they discovered by labor attorney and Democrat Continued on page 2

Democrats Say the Darndest Things: East Greenwich Edition

Keeping you informed of the many great things our Republican officials are doing at all levels of government from municipal to federal.

Poll: Majority of Voters Say State Moving in Right Direction

More than half of New Jersey voters say the state is headed in the right direction, according to results of a new poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University, which had never measured such a majority in a decade of polling. This poll is just the latest in a series of signs clearly demonstrating that the New Jersey comeback is a reality and that the people of New Jersey know it, said Douglass Mayer, spokesman for the New Jersey Republican State Committee, using the phrase Governor Chris Christie built his State of the State around in January. other accomplishments but the Democrat majority led by Director Damminger put the brakes on many good government initiatives. One such initiative was to video tape Freeholder meetings and put them on the County's website. The premise is simple enough -- county residents should be able to interact with county government at their own convenience; not the other way around. Unfortunately for you and many others, Director Damminger controls the Freeholder agenda and as a result, this proposal has still never seen the light of day. Another thwarted proposal was reigning in top heavy county salaries. Since day one, Wallace and Nestore have fought to cut or freeze the salaries of our county's top executives and department heads. Our County Administrator makes almost $200,000 a year and gets a taxpayer funded car. Our County treasurer makes $30,000 more than our state's treasurer and manages a budget 7/10ths of a percent the size. That's why Wallace and Nestore proposed a freeze to all nonunion salaries over $50,000 -- a move that would have saved approximately $178,000 in its first year and would have put a halt on average yearly increases of two percent or more when most taxpayers are just lucky to still have a job -- let alone get a raise. The Gloucester County Times Editorial Board even agreed with the Republican Freeholders and said "The issue is about preventing such salaries from getting so high in the first place... this kind of inflation at the top of Gloucester County's salary scale needs to stop permanently. Republicans Vincent Nestore and Larry Wallace will be doing their jobs as minority-party Freeholders effectively if they keep speaking out against it." The reform measure fell on deaf ears when Democrats defeated the Republicans' motion 4 to 2 (Democrat Freeholder Simmons decided to balk and abstained from voting.) See a pattern yet? Real reform will never happen in Gloucester County so long as Democrats control the Freeholder Board. We need a Republican majority in November and we need your help to get it done. donor, Brown and Connery. The overbilling dated back three years and consisted of this law firm getting away with charging more than $35,000 than it earned. Their contract with the County clearly stated a rate of $150 per hour but Brown and Connery charged $170, $175 and $180 respectively. Taxpayers received a final reimbursement check from the firm in the amount of $35,151. Other notable accomplishments included opening up county government by making a lot of information available on the county's website such as employee salaries, agendas and resolutions before the actual meeting, financial disclosures, etc; eliminating a conflict of interest with Chief County Counsel concurrently serving as Mayor of Gloucester County's largest town; and putting an end to blanket approvals for land easements and takings without the Board's authorization. There could have been many

A Message from Congressman Frank Lobiondo

My fellow Gloucester County Republicans: I am very pleased to again join with my fellow Republicans in Gloucester County on the ballot for another term as your Congressman. I thank GCREC Chairman Bill Fey for both his leadership and vision that have helped revitalize this organization and thank the members of the party for their tireless work to improve Gloucester Countys future. The coming election is one of the most important in the history of both America and Gloucester County. In the past years, we have seen the failure of big government planning with misguided bills resulting in ever deepening debt and no real positives for the economic recovery. Big government plans are not what will save America. It is the efforts of millions of ordinary Americans - local small businesses, entrepreneurs, and families that will build a brighter, better future for our nation. In Washington, I have stood up to President Obama and Congressional Democrats time and time again. From opposing Obamacare, the $1 trillion stimulus, and the Dodd-Frank bill, I have worked to rein in runaway regulations, avoid crippling tax hikes and encourage a real recovery led by the private sector not more Washington schemes. Freeholders Larry Wallace and Vince Nestore have shaken up Woodbury since their election by working for more open and accountable county government. They need our help to complete the job and that help will come in the form of our candidates for Freeholder Margie Love and Tom Thistle and the endorsed candidates for the three constitutional offices, Carolyn Chapman for Surrogate, Phil Dieser for Sheriff, and Jeff Morris for Clerk. Working together with Larry and Vince, these Gloucester County Republicans are ready to pitch in and fix county government and work with me as I strive to fix what is going wrong in Washington. With a strong ticket, we have a great chance to gain seats on the local and national levels this year and we can win in November but only with your continued help. I welcome your support and urge all Gloucester County Republicans to visit my campaign website (www.lobiondoforcongress.com ) to learn how you can help me change Washington for the better. Lets work together to ensure that this November we will see a victory for our party, for this county, and for our nation.

(Contd) Poll Finds Governor Christie Moving State in the Right Direction Under the Christie administration, New Jersey is creating private-sector jobs, becoming more competitive, and now even entrenched Democrats are joining the governor to cut income taxes, Mayer said. With results like that, its no wonder that a majority of New Jerseyans believe their state is finally headed in the right direction. Chairman Bill Fey Announces Slate to Run Under Regular Organization Republican Banner Chairman Fey is proud to announce the following candidates: Margie Love & Tom Thistle for Freeholder, Phil Dieser for Sheriff, Jeff Morris for Clerk and Carolyn Chapman for Surrogate. We were able to put together a dynamic and well rounded team this year one that will not only appeal to the voters, but one filled with individuals who would make outstanding elected public officials, said Chairman Fey. The team has a great mix of private and public sector experience and a commitment to making County government more affordable and transparent. Whether its Damminger or Chila, one thing is clear: Democrats have bloated and mismanaged county government for far too long, said freeholder candidate Margie Love. Im running for freeholder because Im tired of the names changing but the games staying the same. Im not sure who the Democrats are trying to fool but county taxes have increased 133 percent in the last ten years, added Republican freeholder candidate Tom Thistle. When elected, Margie and I will focus on two major priorities (1) cut county spending and not merely shift expenses from one entity to another and (2) make County government the most accessible and responsive to its residents. While Love and Thistle will be working towards a more affordable and transparent county government, GOP Row Office candidates Dieser, Morris and Chapman will turn their attention to improving inefficiencies they see at the Sheriff, Clerk and Surrogate Offices. The Sheriffs Office has a lot of great people in it but the leadership needs to change, said Sheriff Officer and GOP Sheriff candidate Phil Dieser. I love serving the people of Gloucester County everyday and I have the knowledge and energy to improve the Sheriffs Office when given the chance. Ive been a local small business owner since 1981 and have met payroll and expenses for over thirty years without the luxury of going to voters for a bailout, said GOP Clerk candidate Jeff Morris. When elected in November, I will use my business experience to run the Clerks office efficiently and professionally.
