deleting print jobs in c:/WINNT/system32/spool/PRINTERS

This issue can occur if a third-party program changes the default local port monitor. To resolve this issue, correct the Local Port value in the registry. Follow these steps: Important This section, method, or task conatain steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therfore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. See Microsoft article ID 322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/) if you do not know how to back up the registry. With the registry backed up you can restore it if a problem occurs. 1.Start Registry Editor 2. Locate the Local Port value under the following key in the regsitry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\Local Port 3. Double-click the Driver key, and then edit the value. Change the string value to Localspl.dll, and then click OK. 4. Check the following registry key for third-party port monitors, and then remove any port monitors other than the default port monitors: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\COntrol\Print\Monitors The default ports are: AppleTalk Printing Devices (if services for Macintosh is installed) BJ Language Monitor Local Port PJL Language Monitor Standard TCP/IP Port USB Monitor Windows NT Fax Monitor 5. Check the following registry key for third-party print providers, and then remove any print providers other than default print providers: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers The defualt print providers are: Internet Print Provider LanMan Print Provider 6. Quit Registry Editor. After you edit the registry, restart the print spooler: 1. Click Start, Click Run, Type MMC, and then click OK. 2. On the file menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in. 3. Click Add, Click Computer Management, Click Add, and then click Finish. 4. Click Close, and then click OK. 5. Expand Computer Management, expand Services and Applications, and then click services. 6. Right-Click Print Spooler, and then click Restart.

resolved my issue by deleting the following string in the reg,

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Connections] in the connections you may see that there is a reference to your domain, delete the subkey not the top Please do not delete the full key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Connections] only the sub keys below this.

Acting on information from a general blog search, I searched my hard disk for spoolsv.exe and found quite a few copies. It should only be located in Windows\system32 and in update service packs. I found a couple of others including one with a corrupted name, both of which I deleted.
