Upgrading the FLARE Operating Environment

August 7, 2006

This document describes how to use the Software Assistant to install a FLARE operating environment (OE) patch on a CX3 UltraScaleseries or CX series storage system. The Software Assistant is part of the Navisphere Service Taskbar, which is available from the Powerlink website (http://Powerlink.EMC.com) on the CLARiiON tools page.
The Navisphere Service Taskbar to which you have access may not include the Software Assistant. In this case, your service provider must install FLARE OE patches.

Topics include: Before you start ............................................................................. 2 Downloading and installing the Navisphere Service Taskbar............ 3 Installing a FLARE OE patch with the Software Assistant................. 4

If you do not install the correct version prior to downloading NST, the NST setup wizard gives you the option of installing it for you.

Downloading and installing the Navisphere Service Taskbar

1. On the CLARiiON tools page on the Powerlink website, select Navisphere Service Taskbar and select the option to save the software to your host or management station. 2. In the directory where you saved the NST, double-click the setup_NST.exe file, and if necessary, click Run to start the InstallAnywhere wizard. 3. In the Introduction screen, click Next. 4. In the License Agreement screen, read and accept the license agreement. 5. If the server is not running the supported Java Runtime Environment (JRE), do one of the following: If the server is running an earlier version of the JRE, select Yes when asked if you want to install a later version. The wizard installs the JRE when it installs the NST software. If the server is running a later version of the JRE, select OK when prompted that a newer version was found.
The NST may not work properly with a later JRE version.

6. Follow the instructions that appear, and when the installation is done, click Yes to launch the NST.
