Once saved, the content is stored in a mySQL database note it is not stored as an HTML file. This allows for the content to be served dynamically to website visitors, based on the template assigned to the URL requested by each visitor. For example, if a visitor requests the URL of a breaking news article, the Clickability CMS would generate a webpage based on the template assigned for breaking news. That template could have programmatic logic such as:
Clickability, Inc.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
First display the sitewide header and left sidebar Next display a Breaking News banner across the top Next display the article title using <h1> tags Then display the article summary using <h2> tags Next display the article date and author Next display the article photo if there is one Next display the body Finally, display the right sidebar and footer
Further, the homepage could have logic that says if there is an article marked as breaking news, dynamically change the homepage design from the Regular Layout to use the Breaking News Layout:
By using these kinds of templates to dynamically display content, CMS users only need to focus on entering the content into the CMS they do not need to program, edit, or upload any HTML. In addition, when templates are updated (for example, if the news article template has the date and author both moved to appear above the summary) all pre-existing news content will be displayed in the updated look & feel without having to update any individual content items.
