READING COMPREHENSION ASSIGNMENT: FCAT Florida Achieves!

Pre-IB English I (2011-2012) / Knight TASK: Please complete ALL assigned reading comprehension assignments before the due date. WARNING: Points will be deducted if the assignments are completed after the due date. You must avoid collaborating with other students (or online resources) and the work MUST be reflective of your very best. Complete the following steps: 1. Take a deep breath...this will not be that difficult. You will survive this...besides, you WILL benefit from the practice. 2. Open a reliable Internet browser and visit www.fcatexplorer.com. Then find the tab labeled FLORIDA ACHIEVES! (this tab should be under the paper airplane image). 3. Click on the tab; you will be directed to another screen. On this page find the area labeled FOCUS. 4. When you find the area labeled FOCUS you need to login using the FCAT Explorer Student Login Information you received in December. 5. Read the Student Information Privacy Statement and click I AGREE. 6. You should be directed to your class; if not, find your class and enter it. 7. You will then be directed to a screen that will allow you to complete specific assessments that I have opened. You are to complete the assessments under the following Language Arts Strands (see back of this half sheet for specific assessments): a. LA Strand 1 (Reading Process) b. LA Strand 6 (Information and Media Literacy) 8. You will need to complete the First Assessment for the two strands. There are multiple concepts covered in each assessment (see back of this half sheet...check off the concepts as you complete them) 9. Complete the concepts covered in Assessment 1 (LA Strand 1 and LA Strand 6) by 4/16/12 (FCAT 9th Day 1) 10. Review your results. If you need more practice email me and I will open Assessment 2 to give you more practice. OBJECTIVE: Students should be able to complete the assigned reading comprehension assignments using their critical thinking skills, their inferential skills, their ability to recall information from passages and articles, their ability to recognize and use words in context, and their ability to synthesize and compare information. MATERIALS: Your FCAT Explorer Student Login Information slip, this assignment sheet, computer and internet access. EVALUATION: You will not be evaluated on the completion of the work only; instead, your grade will be based on the percentage of correctly completed items. Students who score below 70% will receive considerable point penalty and individual remediation.
