e all run sometimes. Some of us not literally, but in our minds at least. We run from all kinds of things... from the mundane, from monotony. We run from the unknown, the new. We run from changes, from growth. If youre me, youd run from spiders. But its not all negative; we run to things as well. To adventure, to discovery. To the opening of Zara in Pitt Street, and to Topshop sales. We run because were excited, or were scared, nervous or bored. Its human nature, and one day we might even learn to run before we walk. lle Blake is a Melbourne born, city girl. Grown from her mothers womb, never a brother or sister in sight. Shes lived 20 years already. 10 of those with music by her side. From piano lessons on her 10th birthday, how far shes come. In the early years of High School, she wasnt allowed to watch the scary movies that her friends were, to stay at the park past dark or wear tops that showed her stomach - she felt her parents breathing down her neck. Keep holding your breath she told herself. In a classroom, the voices of everyone around her were murmurs. Not the murmurs of a crowd awaiting a stage she should be on. Murmurs of disinterest. Beyond the classroom-window dreams, she didnt want to be her parents, their mediocre lives, conservative, conforming. Happy? Well, ignorance is bliss so they say.

THE NIGHT WALKED DOWN THE SKY WITH STARS IN HER HANDS
At 18 years young, Blake, never Elle, had a voice that husky and powerful. Her burning red hair was her movement, wild and crazy... she was the girl beneath it. Blake graduated and moved to Sydney with some boys she made noise in a garage with. Her parents were quiet. Blake listened as a new city was born, she watched and swallowed up all she hear and saw. New people surrounded her. They were children growing into adults. Blake and her friends tried to set the world on fire and wrote about the way it smouldered. They made music and performed in small, dark pub venues, on stages not much bigger than the drum kit. They gave the crowd energy and in turn, the crowd immersed themselves, with a cigarette in one hand and a cider in the other. It didnt take long before it caught on Now you know the story from here. Rags to riches, baby Signed on the dotted line, they agreed to meet the world.

emember in your teens, that gap between high school and the rest of your life... what did you do? break loose from your parents, go crazy staying awake for days at a time with thanks to red bull; drink half a dozen alchopops & giggle with your friends about your legs being drunk. after university, with a degree in your back pocket & not a clue about how to use it, what did you do? abandon your city life & get a job in retail, move back in with your family. when your first child comes along & the little persons screaming & you cant work out why, or how to quieten their shrill screams. what did you do? Chances are, you sought a means of escape. this is exactly the ideology this photoshoot is built around: escape. for each of the above scenarios the way someone would escape would be different. for each different person, the method would change. thats just another way of saying that red bull around the clock and lolly coloured alcohol isnt for all of us. this collaborative photoshoot between Siobhan & I looks at a naive, young girl whos caught up in the stuggle between her current life & the life she imagined. its a reaction to finding out that all isnt like you thought. this is her running away, contrasting what shes running away from against what she runs away to.

RUNAWAY TO RUNAWAY
Is a comment upon the iddeas of discovery & the sort of societal pressure put upon people at all stages of their lives- even in youth when they are perhaps considered the most care-free. So the brief outlines a cultural trend, so were thinking of discovery of ones self . by this, we want to explore the period in youth when you retaliate against contentment and go on an adventure to escape the normalacy of the mundane. our shoot will have themes of freedom, and show a spontaneous persona, allowing us to reference a 70s visual as this time also boasted these connotations. we will shoot a positive memoir of beautiful moments and the free-spirited nature of our character in a rural setting. At the end of the day, this article would, realistically, say things about escapism, discovery and freedom in a beautifully written manner. It will allude to people that are inspirational in regards to this sort of thing and will also help to lead people into a mindset of adventure and discovery if theyre not already in one. It could be brilliant, floral, hard, funny, and everything that it should be in order to not only do the pictures justice but to add something beautiful and truely amazing to them. This is the escape issue. Do us proud.

CREATIVE DIRECTION //JODIE DRAPER PHOTOGRAPHY //JODIE DRAPER he concept has grown out of its initial stages regarding food, entertainment & matt prestons lavish physical & cultural identity. ive developed a greater understanding of the Vogue Living reader, knowing now that whilst my images may bring a new edge to the magazine, theyre something the viewer would appreciate. ive built upon Prestons small-market trends of cravats with ties, ive been creative when mixing food & beauty products in an almost camoflage way & ive recreated the notion of high tea. ive drawn upon Prestons british roots & presented to an Australian audience an aesthetic & concept thats plausable & pleaseable. im adamant that Vogue livings clientel of young to middle aged adult women will be inspired to learn more about a celebrity at the fore-front of a new cultural trend; gourmet cooking. I know that, whilst Preston might not be everyones cup of tea, hes a character with real, true personality- that I have not only captured, but presented on a platter in front of my audience, with silverwear at the ready for them to dig in. each & every design decision was made with the questions what would Matt do? and would vogue allow it?- under a creative umbrella, ive combined the average this-isa-shot-from-where-matts-living in shoot 3, to a dual meaning not-just-an-entertainment-space-but-a-beauty-product-haven in shoot 2, tied by the ground roots, the english heritage, the high tea,
