Course Syllabus in Soc.Sci 2 (General Psychology)


College: Engineering Architecture Department Area: General Engineering Year Level: BSA 5A Term/Year: 2nd Semester SY 2011-2012 I. Course Description This course deals with the study of human nature in general, the different views and contribution of the various schools of psychology, emotion, perception, and development of the individual, and the fundamental principles of psychology and their application to wholesome human relations. Also, this provides students the necessary knowledge about psychology and to motivate the interests and to use their knowledge of the use of scientific method and recognition of the multiple base of behavior are essential to their understanding of psychology. PRE-REQUISITE: none Units: 3 Hours: 54 II. Course objectives A. General 1. Understand the nature of man from the standpoint of the self; family and society. 2. Identify issue and determinants that affect human relations. 3. Enumerate ethical theories; psychosexual stages; and cognitive development by the different psychologists and philosophers. 4. Recognize and appreciate mans maturity in the study of principles of human development. 5. Enhance students skills in speaking and writing through eclectic strategies and questioning strategies to stimulate their critical thinking. B. Specific 1. Relate the significance of the origin of man and connect this to other disciplines such as history; sociology and to the vision, mission, goals and objectives of SSC. 2. Defines psychology in all areas and field of specialization. 3. Enumerate and explain the different points of view in explaining human behavior. 4. Recall his/her developmental stages and the most significant people in his/her life. 5. Symbolize him/her as he/she perceives to be. 6. Evaluate his/her own identity and see how ones identity is rooted to god.

7. Apply the different adjustment and coping mechanism in everyday life situations.
