Unit aim This unit provides learners with an opportunity to develop their project management and research skills

by developing a project where they plan and implement a new product, service or process. This unit recognises the importance to managers of having project management skills and the relevant expertise to enable this to happen. The purpose of this unit is to give learners an opportunity to integrate all the knowledge from their programme of learning by developing a project in which they plan and implement a new product, service or process. Learners need to take a full and active role in all aspects of the project, and the selection of an appropriate management issue is crucial to success. Learners will cover a full range of management activities and roles, including resource and people management and implementation of change. The result needs to be a substantial report in a style appropriate for consideration by senior management. Instructions: Before embarking on to the assignment, please read the important instructions regarding your assignment.

a. You are required to answer all the questions and respond to all the criteria set out in this assignment. b. Your answers should address the criteria directly and you should avoid writing irrelevant materials as it will be cancelled and may affect your overall results. c. Please be specific and make use of appropriate business vocabulary. Your work should reflect an acceptable level of written communication skills as required in Level 7 qualifications. d. This assignment must be presented in a REPORT FORMAT. Any assignment which does not follow the report format may and will be referred. e. A PPT on the assignment will be submitted along with the Report. Both the Report and the PPT will be assessed against the LOs. The PPT should cover the essential aspects of the Project and the Presentation will be for 20-25 mins. The Presentation Schedule will be indicated in the Weekly Timetable.

This Assessment of the Module will be based on the following:1. Written Report: Addressing all the tasks and as per format given. 2. Presentation. A Powerpoint Presentation will be submitted along with the report. The

PPT should meet the requirements of a 20-25 min oral presentation. (It is compulsory for students to present their new product development project in the class on the dates announced to them. Any student who fails to make presentation will be graded as fail and will have to repeat the module in the next term.) Scenario: You are required to select an organisation of your choice and after analysing its product line portfolio, find out the gap in the market which this organisation can fill by offering a product, service or process. Having done that, you should design a project for developing the new product, service or process for your chosen organisation.

You are the Leader of the Project Team to Develop and launch a New Product. As part of your duties you require to seek approval from the Board of Directors for pursuing the New Product. A case with all the required details would have to be submitted to the Board of Directors to get a Go Ahead for the project. The report should answer the questions/ address the tasks given below.

Task 1: 1.1. Undertake a market analysis on the selected industry and identify the factors that contribute to the selection of the New Product, Service or Process to be developed . (AC 1.1) Develop an outline of the New Product/Service/Process Development project including a list of expected outcomes from this project. (AC: 1.2) Produce an outline of New Product Development project plan and briefly explain each stage in the plan. (AC: 1.3, 2.1)

Task 2: 2.1. Develop specification of the NPD project providing the following details:-

Outline of the Resources required for the NPD project. (AC: 2.2) Costing of the individual resources required to implement the NPD Project. (AC: 2.3)

2.2. Outline of the implementation strategy in accordance with the agreed specification projected earlier. (AC: 2.5, 3.1) Task 3: 3.1. Identify the measures/ activities that will be utilised to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Project. . (AC: 3.2)

Indicate the measures that will be used to evaluate the outcomes of the Project. (AC: 3.3)

4.1 Analyse the projected outcomes of the project as per the original specifications and identify the parameters that lead to the evaluation of the project as successful. (AC: 4.1, 4.2)

4.2. Based on the implementation and outcomes of the NPD Project make justified recommendations to guide similar projects in future. (AC: 4.3) Marking and Grading:

Distinction Assessment Criteria Understand and realise the Strategic importance of Project management and Strategically apply the project management skills on developing new product, service or process in a given organisation to develop corporate core-competencies Learner demonstrate the Strategic importance of key stages of a project and effectively integrate the stages of NPD into the stages of project and develop a Project life cycle for a new product, service or process in the given organisation or in a given scenario.
