PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 A. MATERIALS Membrane: Shall be preformed, cold applied, self-adhering, laminated sheet membrane. The laminate shall consist of glass fiber core coated on both sides with a polymer modified rubber bitumen compound. The membrane shall have a polypropylene film bonded on one side and a siliconized release paper backing on the adhesive side. The nominal thickness of the laminate shall be 1.5mm. Moisture vapor transmission rate shall not exceed 0.2 gm/m2/24 hours measured accordance to ASTM E96. The glass core shall be non-woven mat with minimum mass of 50 gms/m2. B. Solar Reflective Membrane: Shall have similar construction as the membrane above but the exposed face shall have solar reflective properties. Primer: Shall be solvent based bituminous primer conforming to ASTM D41. The primer shall be compatible with the membrane and shall ensure proper adhesion. Flashing Compound: Shall be towel grade, cold applied rubberized bitumen cement, conforming to ASTM D4586. Fillets: Shall be extruded PVC triangular shaped 40 x 40 mm Sections coated with self-adhesive compound. Protection Board: Shall be either of the following: 1. 6 mm thick sandwich board. The core shall consist of fine aggregates bounded in modified bitumen covered with two layers of tough asphalt paper. 12 mm thick sandwich board. The core shall consist of granulated cork bound in modified bitumen and encased in two layers of tough asphalt paper conforming to ASTM D 1751. 3 mm thick tempered masonite boards incorporating resin and impregnating with hot drying oils.

C.

Before covering the installed membrane, a careful inspection shall be made of all areas where membrane work has been completed. Any damage to the membrane shall be repaired by patching. INSTALLATION Typical installation details shall be in accordance with attached Guideline Details 07110 (Sheets 1 thru 3) Details for Membrane Waterproofing of Concrete Structure.

3.2

A.

The concrete surfaces shall be dry and free of all dust and debris. All sharp protrusions shall be ground smooth and all hollows and honeycomb voids, and similar surface defects shall be filled with approved concrete fillers in accordance with Section 03300 Cast-in-Place Concrete. The concrete surfaces shall be painted with one coat of bitumen primer and allowed to dry until touch dry. The adhesive side of membrane sheets shall be unrolled onto prepared surfaces after progressively peeling back the protective release paper. The sheets shall be rolled to ensure exclusion of air under the membrane. A minimum lap of 75mm shall be provided at the edges and 150mm at the ends between the adjacent sheets. Edge and end laps shall be rolled with pressure to ensure complete adhesion. One layer of membrane shall be laid directly over the horizontal surface of blinding under the footings and a layer of sand/cement screed 25mm thick shall be cast over it before erecting forms for footings. All angles and corners, external or internal, shall be reinforced with an extra strip of 300 wide membrane sheet. The external and internal corners shall have cut and cloaked membrane pieces. External corners shall have a minimum 25mm chamfer and internal angles between slab and walls shall be provided with a 40 x 40 mm preformed fillet. In no case the membrane shall be stretched at the angles or corners. The membrane shall be dressed and eased around corners and angles. At the location of pipes through the walls and floor slabs, reinforcing strips and collars shall be used. For structures projecting above ground, the membrane shall be extended at least 300 mm above grade and terminated and finished in a 20 x 20 mm chase in the concrete. The chase shall be pointed immediately with bitumen flashing compound prior to backfilling. PROTECTION 1. All below ground membrane surfaces shall be protected with protection boards before the backfilling operations can begin.

2.

On horizontal surfaces with membrane, where reinforcing steel is to be placed, 25 mm thick layer of sand/cement screed shall be cast. Placing of formwork, reinforcement and concrete shall only begin after the screed has sufficiently hardened. Other membrane protection materials in lieu of screed may be used provided approval is obtained from the MARAFIQ. Areas with membrane shall be protected wither with screed or protection board at the end of a working day. No storage of materials or traffic shall be allowed on the unprotected membraned areas. Care shall be exercised during the backfilling operations so as not to dislocate the protection boards and damage the membrane. + + + END OF SECTION 07110 + + +
