JUST LEAVE ME THE KEYS
SETTING
Cars are convenient, except when they need repair.
Anique uses her car for shopping and driving their children
to school. Luiz has a second-hand car to
drive to the university. Unfortunately, it often
needs repairing. He's going to pick up his car.
DIALOGUE
Hello Mr. Hidalgo. How are you doing?
Fine. But I wish I could do without a car.
Forget about it. We're pretty much dependent on them.
It's diffcult.
At least cars should be made to last, don't you think?
Mine is certainly in a bad shape.
I don't think so. We've fxed the problem. It should be
all right now.
Really? I should have taken my car here sooner.
Thanks a lot! Anyway, can I leave my car here
for an hour or so? I have some business to do
across the street.
No problem. Just leave me the keys. I'll take care of it.
NARRATIVE
Luiz is talking to his friend at the university.
...I was fed up with my old mechanic, so I went to a differ-
ent garage this time. It took him only two hours.
On top of that, I got a free oil change. The mechanic
there seems to have done a good job...
QUESTIONS
What does Luiz teach
at the university?
Does Anique drive a
new car?
How old is Luiz's car?
How much did he pay
for it?
How did Luiz fnd his
new mechanic?
What was the problem?
What model is his car?
How much does he
have to pay for the
repair job?
What did Luiz have
to do at the real estate
agency?
Could Anique and Luiz
do without their cars?
